"It appears that you are growing up at last, Sandra, my dear," Elisabeth said. "Linda tells me you are spending more time with her each day, learning how to manage a household."
"I am happy if you are pleased, Mother." Sandra could not tell her parent that she asked Linda for extra chores so she would not have time to brood about the mountains and think of her old home, even when she has little memory of it.
A few days after he had left Gerutinr, the winter storms had begun again. Sandra hoped that Lucian had reached one of the cities on the plain and found shelter before he was taken by the snow. She wanted to be of help to her mother. She knew her mother was stressed, her father's death had brought a lot of pain to her mother and she wanted to help her mother through the tough time, but No! Her mother won't allow it. Always keeping her and her sister as if they were prisoners. She was tired of it, she asked Lucian about some information, so she could help but he left already and she feared for the worst since it was winter.
"Do you know when Lucian will come to visit us again? Linda said she wasn't sure of the date."
"It will not be until the snow melts." Elisabeth frowned. "Why are you so eager to see Lucian?"
"He promised to bring me a new book."
"Are you so bored that you want to sit still and read?" Elisabeth placed a hand on her daughter's forehead, then put one finger under her chin, lifting her face and making Sandra look directly into her eyes. "You don't appear to have a fever. Is there something you want to tell me, Sandra?"
"You already know everything I have to tell, mother," Sandra snapped with a bit of her old spirit. She pulled her chin from her mother 's grasp. "You are quite right. I am bored. I want to go riding."
"Not in this weather. Have patience, my dear. Spring will come soon enough."
"But not soon enough for me," Rosalinda muttered. "Some days I think I will go mad." Sandra paced back and forth in Rosalinda's bedchamber.
"I do not think you will go mad. Calm yourself Sandra." Rosalinda said.
"But Lucian." Sandra turned when she reached the window and began prowling back to the bed where Rosalinda sat. "If Lucian comes, he will have to tell us what has happened. Or at least a message some kind."
"Do sit down," Rosalinda said. "If you go on this way much longer, you will make yourself ill. You know mother keep this things from us just to protect us, have patience that Lucian will bring us all good news. Mother has suffered a lot and you putting your burden upon her brings her great amount of stress." Rosalinda stared at Sandra's eyes. "Live Lucian to do what mother has told him."
"You do not understand Rosalinda." Sandra said. "I am tired of being like a prisoner here, I want to have freedom and I also want to meet the man I love. You should want that too Rosalinda." Sandra stopped her nervous pacing, telling herself she should calm down like Rosalinda said. In her worry and frustration, she had said too much.
"Please don't tell mother." Sandra sat down beside her sister. "When Lucian returns he will eventually tell us what has happened. I am tired of staying here I want us to go back to Monteferro like before."
"You just have to be patient, my dear." Rosalinda said, sounding remarkably like her mother.
"I have been patient enough, Rosalinda."
"Try harder then, because if mother were to find out that you have been trying to get information from Lucian she will most likely be furious. And you do not want to make mother angry." Rosalinda said. Trying to knock some sense into Sandra before she angers her mother.
Sandra shivers at the word. When she and Rosalinda were still little, a men-at-arm angered their mother seriously that she feared for the man's faith. She shivered again, remembering. "I do not like to see mother angry but Rosalinda you must understand that I am tired of this place, mother never let us go anywhere apart from the mountains, and also she does not have spare time for any of us." Sandra pointed to Rosalinda and her self. "She hardly have time for us, she is always discussing with Leonardo, Lucian or even Linda but not us. We are her daughters!-"
"Shush." Rosalinda put a finger to her lips to silence Sandra. "If you do not want to really anger mother now I suggest you lower your voice or else." Rosalinda didn't finish her sentence because she already know Sandra knew what the 'or else' means.
Sandra stayed silent for a minute before reply her sister. "Okay. I will say no more of the issue."
"Good." Rosalinda said.
