Being the artist friend and dealing with hate

When people find out I am an artist, they are usually one out of four steryotypes.

The one who doesn't care, The overly supportive, The one that shares the same interest, and the free loaders.

The Friend that Doesn't Care:

This is the type of person that doesn't ask you what you're doing all the time, which is really refreshing. They know that art is your thing and they don't bother you when you're working on something. I only have two of these type of friends.

The Overly Supportive Friend:

I have one overly supportive friend, They usually tent to ask what you're doing and it gets annoying really fast. When I do commissions on some of my art, they pay way too much for it. They are usually totally in love with your art.

The One Who Shares the Same Interest:

This is a super rare friend, I've never experienced this friendship in real life, only online. They usually have a different art style than what you have. You rely on them to help you with art, just as much as they do you.

The Free Loaders:

This is where it gets negative.

There are too many free loaders in this world. They guilt trip you into making free art for them. This puts a lot of stress on me, especially when it is a family member or close friend. I feel like I have to say yes. I have a hard time sayin no to them because I am a people pleaser. I feel like I have to make a good impression and make the free art for them, or else they won't like me. And not in a selfish way.

Dealing With Hate on Your Art:

For every person that doesn't like your art, there will be a hundred more that will.

There is always going to be someone hating on your art, don't get discouraged. Their opinion doesn't matter.

If someone says they don't like your art, just say " i'm sorry you feel that way, but art is subjective. I'm open to any constructive criticism if you have any though."

now, I have some questions for you.

Are you the art friend, or the friend of an artist?

If you are the artist's friend what steryotype do you think you are?

Do you experience hate on your art?

Do you get stressed out when someone asks for a request?

Do people tell you what you should draw?

a/n and that was my ted talk thank you for listening.
