Jarred drove us to this little shopping complex, much like one that I had back at home. I felt at ease. The whole way there I was asking where we were going, but he refused to tell me.

It was just after lunch time when he parked the car. I climbed out of the car straight after he turned it off and took the key out of the ignition. I leaned with my back against a rough brick wall right in front of Jarred’s car while I waited for him to get out. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and checked my messages. I had a message from my mum.

“Hope you are behaving. Enjoy your time with Jarred. See you soon. “

I sighed at my phone before typing a quick reply to my mother.

“I am, I will.” I responded. It seemed a bit harsh so I sent a smiley face after.

“Ready?” Jarred said from in front of me. My phone started to vibrate in my hand, ’Heaven Knows’ by The Pretty Reckless playing seconds after, letting me know that I had a call coming through.

“Hold that thought.” I said quickly, and answering the call without even looking at the caller I.D.

“Hello?”

“Ali?” Cailey questioned.

“Cailey?”

“Where are you?”

“I’m with Jarred,” I laughed, “didn’t I tell you?”

“No.” she sounded hurt. That was the thing about Cailey though; she got too angry about things that had nothing to do with her. “Anyway, me and Ben are going to the movies, do you want to come with us?”

“I would love to,” I laughed, “but I can’t, I’m at Jarred’s house.” I handed Jarred the phone. I gave him a look that said just take it.

“Hello?” he questioned, clearing his throat slightly. I laughed slightly at how uncomfortable he looked.

“Sorry.” He mumbled seconds later. He gave me my phone back.

“OH my god, you bitch! Why didn’t you tell me?!” Cailey yelled excitedly.

“Okay, okay, I’m sorry!” I laughed, “Hey Cailey, I’ll call you later okay, he’s taking me somewhere but won’t tell me where. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Okay, bye!” she hung up.

Thank God, I thought to myself. I looked over at Jarred and watched as he pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket.

“I better put these in the car.” he said, briefly holding them up for me to see as he made his way over to the driver’s side front door and unlocked the car. Jarred leaned into the car and I couldn’t see him for a few seconds. I didn’t like when he smoked, but I wasn’t going to change him just because I didn’t like it. He re-emerged seconds later, cigarette in mouth.

“What are you doing?” I asked, pointing to the cigarette that was precariously resting between his lips. He walked up to me and slumped against the brick wall.

“It’s a metaphor, you see.” He said, mocking Augustus Waters from TFIOS.

“Ohmygod.” I laughed, grabbing the cigarette from his mouth and putting it back in the packet and locking the car.

I walked back to Jarred and he grabbed my hand, pulling me along a narrow path and around a corner.

“Where are we going?” I laughed, almost running to keep up with him. He stopped right in front of a Chinese restaurant.
