I grab my purse off the back of the closet door knob. I take a few steps to look myself in the mirror. I stand there in tight black jeans and a gray, flowy tank top. My hair was up in the bun with a few bobby pins and had my hair falling faintly on my neck. I study my reflection for as long as I could before I hear a knock on my door. As I look up to my Audrey clock, I notice Garrett was a few minutes early.
"Hold on," I express loudly.
I grab my phone and shove it into my purse. I look myself in the mirror once again and walk towards to door to let him in.
"Hey," I smile as soon as our faces are a few feet apart.
"You look great," he said which caught me by surprise.
"Oh, thank you," I smile, "you ready?"
"Yep," he replied as we I shut my door and we both make our way down the hall.
"So, where are we going?"
"Marlow's Tavern, have you heard of it?" he asked.
"No, is it good?"
"Yes, I've been there a few times and holy shit."
Garrett and I laugh and enjoy the walk to his car silently. We make our way to the parking lot and go towards his car. Before I reach to open the door, Garrett pushes away my hand gently. He reaches for the door handle instead and opens up the door to his black Range Rover.
"Thanks," I smile and sit myself in the car.
Garrett hops in himself in the car and turns the radio on. Something about this reminds me of Nick and our car rides. I notice the reason why I was thinking of Nick was because Garrett turned on the rock and roll station. I look out the window and smile to myself and the thought of him and his touch.
"You're going to love this place," Garrett said, interrupting my thoughts.
"You think?"
"Yeah, that's why I picked it," he smiled at me.
I smile back and look out the window again, my heart was pounding. I feel guilty to the thought of Garrett taking me out for dinner and possibly having feelings for me when I obviously have something else going on. I take a deep breath and hold it in until the car leaves the parking lot. The drive was short but silent. Garrett was tapping the steering wheel to the beat of the songs just like Nick would. The windows were down and the lights of the town were mesmerizing. We get closer to the main street with multiple restaurants and bars. I realize we begin to parallel park when Garrett turns and puts his hand on my seat to look out the back window. He was inches away from me. I could feel his breath against my neck which caused me to freeze in my seat. The fact that he was so close is making lose my mind. I sit there, frozen, and keep my eye on the road ahead of me. He was close enough where I could smell him. When I feel myself jolt forward as the car parked, I instantly unbuckled my seatbelt.
"Ready?" Garret asked as he was unbuckling his seatbelt as well.
I nod and grab my purse. I hop out of the car to see groups of people walking the streets and echoing the strip with their laughter. Garrett comes to my side and nudges me to walk with him. I think he could tell I was nervous by the lack of chatter between us.
"Here it is," he says as we walk up to a brick building with red bolded letters that said Marlow's Tavern.
"This is," I look around, "really nice."
