"Risk comes from not knowing what you're doing."

Turns out I didn't lie to Joshua. As soon as I'd gotten home, I went up to my room and did some homework. Well, that is until my phone started ringing, dragging me back to reality and away from the math problem I was currently trying to solve.
Remembering yesterday's events, this time, I looked at the caller-ID before answering. Relief flooded through me when it was Sabrina's name flashing on the screen.
"Hi," I greeted.
"Hi Liam," she greeted in return. "You home?"
"Yes... why?"
"Oh, nothing," she sounded amused. My brows furrowed. "Just thought that maybe, since I spotted you talking to Joshua after school, that maybe you were with him." She was full on grinning by now, I could detect as much.
I rolled my eyes. "No, I'm not hanging out with him... today."
"Oooh, so there's going to be some hanging out soon?"
"Actually, he asked if we all wanted to hang out with him tomorrow..."
She caught what I was getting at. "Oh, sorry, Dave has swim practice after school tomorrow. I'll stay behind as well."
Damn, I'd forgotten about Dave's swim practice. "Oh, okay."
"But you, Luke and Bianca can still hang out with him, right?"
"And here I thought you'd tell me to hang out with him all alone," I deadpanned.
Sabrina chuckled before turning serious. "Anyways, there's actually a reason I'm calling."
"Yeah?"
"As you know, Dave's birthday is on Thursday, next week."
"Right." I had totally forgotten about that.
"I want to hold a surprise birthday party for him."
"Sounds fun," I stated out of reflex, knowing it would probably end up like most parties these last couple of months. My friends drinking, getting drunk and having a lot of fun. Me standing by the sideline, drinking without getting drunk and not having a lot of fun.
Although, a party didn't sound so bad right now. I felt like I needed to unwind.
"Yeah, I think it'll be great. And my parents are away that weekend, so I'll have it at my place. It's just, since it's supposed to be a surprise party, I don't want Dave to find out about it. So I kind of need someone to keep him occupied during the day on Saturday, and then take him to my place where the rest of us will wait."
"Sounds doable," I agreed.
"Yeah, well, I was wondering if maybe you and Luke could be the ones to keep him occupied? Maybe take him to a game or something?"
Even though Sabrina couldn't see it, I was smiling. It was really sweet of her going so far to create a surprise party for her boyfriend. "That's a great present Sabrina. Of course Luke and I'll occupy Dave until the party."
"Thank you, Liam! You're the bestest!"
"You're welcome," I chuckled.
"I'll talk to you about the details later, ok?"
