I saw Amber sitting at one of the seats and she immediately looked at me, a smile creasing her lips, like she knew I would be exactly three minutes late.
And, as much as I wanted to clear things out with her, my gut was telling me that something was going to go wrong. And did I tell you how my guesses were always accurate?
They've always been. But I really hope this one is wrong. I made my way to the table Amber was sitting at and she took something out of her bag and hid it under the table. It made me even more nervous about this whole thing. Was she here to return something back to me and say goodbye? I should really stop overthinking.
"So, why did you call me here Amber?", I asked, keeping my cool.
"Look, about this whole matter... It's really silly and... Don't get me wrong. I don't mean that what you're doing is silly, it's just that it's stupid to continue this fight when we can talk it out. But, you aren't stupid. What I mean is...", Amber was trying and I could see it. She didn't want to make any mistakes, but her naivety got me laughing.
Amber looked at me in amusement and smiled. "I made you laugh." She nodded like she was proud of herself.
I stopped laughing and pulled on a serious look. "What is it that you want to tell me exactly?", I asked.
"I'm sorry.", she said immediately.
"Although you don't know what you're sorry for, you're still apologizing?", I asked.
"How did you-...", Amber begins to ask. "I'm still your best friend.", I replied.
"As much as I appreciate you coming and apologizing, this isn't your fault to begin with.", I start explaining. I can see Amber is confused and wants to ask why I'm angry with her if it isn't her fault, but she lets me finish as she remembers how much I hate interruptions.
"I-I don't know when it started but... Or how it started, but I've been feeling a little, not me. I don't know if this is what you call changing with time, but I'm going through something you wouldn't understand, and I hope you would never understand. I don't want you going through the same thing.", I stop momentarily and unintentionally look down at my hands.
"Noah told me.", Amber said.
I look up and ask, "What?"
"That, he's... shifting.", she replied.
I sit back against the chair and ask, "When did he tell you?"
"Today, at the cafeteria. He looked really sad and he wants to help you, but doesn't know how to. He told me about your fight and he really feels sorry. Why don't you go and talk to him?", Amber suggested.
I take some time to think and neither of us talk for some time.
"I know this is the most stupidest thing anyone could fight about. But, lately, I've been having the worst mood swings. Everything that's happening, it has made me a little sad. But you're right, I'll go and talk to Noah.", I finish and get up. "Thanks for listening to me. I feel better."
"Wait.", Amber stops and gets up and hands over a piece of paper to me which she was hiding under the table. I take it and look at her, waiting for her to explain.
"Don't open it yet. Open it when you're alone. It's a letter.", she said and smiled.
Amber and I have a habit of giving each other letters every time we fight. It's a reminder to our future self how we always fought about stupid things. Amber started it and it slowly became like a small tradition.
I smile and murmur a small thanks and walk out of the cafe. I put the letter in my bag to read later and call Noah.
*phone call connected*
*Noah clears his throat* ~Hello?
Hey... I wanted to talk to you. Could we meet up?
*sound of something falling* Yes. Where?
Come to the garden next to the bookstore in the university.
Okay. I'll meet you near the table we always sit at. Wait for me there, okay?
Okay.
*phone call disconnected*
And so I wait. To kill time, I play a game on my phone.
After what seems like eternity, which was actually five minutes, I hear footsteps... and heavy breathing.
"What did you wanna talk about?", Noah asked as he approached the table I was sitting at.
"I-I wanted to apologize.", I said. Noah looked at me in shock.
"What for?", Noah asked.
"You know why. I shouldn't have screamed at you when you were only trying to cheer me up. And to be honest I shouldn't be fighting with you at all. You're leaving soon and... it'd be better if I spent more time with you rather than bickering about stupid things.", I replied.
Noah smiled at me and embraced me in his arms and said, "I wouldn't do otherwise."
I smiled, finally relieved that I got everything done right. It felt so good now that everything was off my chest. Wait, not everything.
"Noah?"
"Hmm?"
"I need to talk to Delia... We still have stuff to sort out.", I said.
"What about Amber? Are you alright with her now?", He asked.
"Yeah. We talked it and out and I think we're fine. She made me admit that everything that was happening was just so stupid and-"; "It's okay now that everything is fine. Don't think about it.", Noah said to make me calm down.
"You should go and talk to Delia now.", He suggested. I agreed and gave Noah and tight hug and a kiss on the cheek. He watched me walk towards the library, which was where Delia was. She practically lives there.
