My prayer was answered a week later when I walked into my room to see Lola seated on my bed with a plate of ice cream and meat pies.My roommate, Zubi, was also there.
"I'll leave you two to talk", she said standing up and made her head way out.
Hesitantly, I took a few steps forward and sat on the other side of my bed across from my twin, dropping my bag on the carpet covered floor.
"What are you doing here?" I asked after an awkward moment of as silence.
"I came to call a truce", she said, pushing the big plate of ice cream forward alongside the meat pies. "I'm tired of fighting", she said. "I miss you. I miss my twin. I miss my best friend".
Another moment of silence went by before I spoke.
"Finally!" I breathed. "I honestly didn't expect you to even last this long", I teased, earning a smile from my sister.
"Trust me", Lola said. "It was a lot harder than I thought".
"I know", I agreed. "Not saying that I missed you though", I added and she laughed.
"You know you did", she teased.
"You wish I did", I said, reaching for the ice cream.
"I'm hungry", Lola complained with a groan.
"Have a meat pie then", I offered, pushing it towards her.
Lola shook her head. "Not for snacks", she said. "Didn't you cook?" She asked.
"Lucky for you, I did", I said." There's jollof rice and chicken in the pot over there",I said , pointing towards it. "Help yourself".
Lola immediately did so and returned with a plate heaped with rice and chicken.
She had a large appetite.
"Do you need a drink?" I asked.
Lola shook her head. "I brought one already", she said and pulled out a carton or 'chivita' juice from her bag.
She dug in with enthusiasm and cleared her plate in no time.
"So...", she began, entwining her fingers together. "I know you don't really like Darey or his friends and he's told me why", she said. "But I want you to please give him a chance. I really like him and he makes me happy'.
I paused.
I looked at her and noticed the hopeful glint in her eyes. If I was being honest, she did look happy and if that asshole made my sister happy then I guess that was enough for me.
I feigned a sigh of longsuffering.
"Fine!" I said with an eye roll. "I'll tolerate him".
She squealed in delight and pounced on me to give me a big squeeze.
"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you", she chanted and placed several kissed on my cheek.
"Okay. Ew ew ew", I said with my face scrunched up in disgust. "That's enough. I get it".
She finally pulled away with a huge grin on her face as I pretended to wipe my cheek in disgust.
"Thanks Larry", she said with sparkling eyes.
"You're welcome, as long as you don't kiss me anymore", I said and she laughed.
"Fine", she said. "And try not to make him too uncomfortable", she pleaded.
"I'll try", I agreed, knowing I won't. "But he better not hurt you in any way or I swear to God, I will hurt him in ways that haven't even been invented yet",I said. "I kid you not".
She laughed happily. "Agreed", she said and changed the topic. "I've got new movies I know you'll absolutely love on my laptop", she told me.
My eyes widened in excitement. "Did you bring it?" I asked.
She nodded and reached into her bag to pull out her laptop and retrieved a bag of popcorn as well.
I beamed."Well, somebody came prepared"I said.
"Better believe it",she said and scooted over to give me space to sit beside her with the popcorn.
"I really missed you,Larry", she whispered as the movie started.
I turned to see her watching me with a smile on her face.
I rolled my eyes.
"Well, I kinda missed you too", I said with a smile playing on my lips.
She beamed happily and rested her head on my shoulder as we resumed watching the movie.
*****
In the weeks that followed, I realized that I'd never seen my sister so content, happy and -dare I say it- in love.
Because of her, I hung out with the guys a few times and I had to admit that they weren't all bad.
That didn't mean I didn't watch them closely though.
Especially that Darey Kelani.
I still didn't trust him even though he had never done anything suspicious.
On the contrary, he looked happy with my sister and did his best to make her happy so I guess that was enough for me.
Sometimes, I saw him tutor her and I had to admit that Lola's grades skyrocketed due to his tutoring. If it kept up, she'd be graduating with a first class.
Tamara hung out with them each time I did as well and Ese had taken to teasing Her a lot. She gave as good as she got so I wasn't worried at all.
From what I got from studying the guys, I could see that Darey was the outgoing and friendly one - much like Lola.
Jayden - who was Darey's best friend - was the silent one. He hardly ever spoke when we hung out, just merely observed quietly.
Ese was the flirt - he practically flirted with anything in skirts. He was simply the Casanova of the group.
The last but not least was Kendall - or as I liked to secretly call him, Mr sarcasm. Kendall was a lot like me in that area and knowing that there was someone as sarcastic as I was, was really refreshing. We mostly teamed up and gave the others a hard time - everyone except Jayden that is.
The guy seemed to have some sort of Anti-sarcasm gene and always made sure to turn the tables around in his favour. I learnt that he was the smartest amongst the four and he never failed to prove it each time he opened his mouth.
I admired him...a lot.
And yes I was attracted to the gorgeous and freakishly smart guy.
Sue me!
But I didn't let myself dwell on that considering the exams were around the corner already.
I had priorities.
