CHAPTER FIVE.

I studied valiantly at my favourite spot in the library - which was mostly secluded - each day.

As usual, I brought a few snacks that I always snuck in and munched on as I studied.

"Lara", I heard a deep but familiar voice call quietly as I studied one day and looked up to see Jayden.

"Hi", I said with a brow arched in surprise. "What are you doing here?" I asked.

He lifted the books in his hands and raised a brow.

"Studying", he simply said but his tone added 'obviously' to his word.

I closed my eyes and sighed, mentally slapping myself for the stupid question.

"Rich", I said opening my eyes.

"May I?" He asked gesturing to the chair across from me.

   I nodded. "Sure".

He pulled the chair and sat, looking straight at me with his piercing brown eyes.

"What?" I asked when I noticed his stare. "Never seen a pretty girl before?" I teased.

   He smirked.

"Not a pretty girl with crumps of food on her mouth", he replied smugly.

I mentally cursed and scrambled for the serviette beside me, using it to wipe the crumps of the snacks I'd been munching while avoiding his eyes in embarrassment.

   See what I meant?

He just turned the tables on me. He was supposed to be embarrassed because I'd caught him staring, instead he'd managed to make me embarrassed instead.

   Annoying genius!

"Do you need help studying?" He asked.

I'll looked up in surprise and frowned in confusion.

   "Aren't you an engineering student?"

   He nodded.

"I am", he said. "I took all art courses back in secondary to prove to the art students that it wasn't all that hard. It was a bet".

I raised my brows in surprise as he continued.

"I still take art courses just for fun", he said. "English being one of them. I just don't sit for tests or exams that's all".

I stared at him in awe, genuinely impressed.

He'd managed to say all that without it once sounding like he was boasting or proud.

"Why did you choose engineering?" I asked curiously. "From what the boys said, you could've chosen any course and graduated with the highest honours."

He smiled slightly. "I've always wanted to become an engineer," he said.

"You could've been a great doctor," I said.

   He shrugged. "Not my calling."

I smiled again. "To each his own."

"So, do you need help?" He asked again.

Putting my ego aside, I responded honesty.

   "All I can get."

He smiled and stood to take the seat beside me. Pushing his books aside, he opened one of my textbooks and said...

   "Let's begin."
