The air conditioning was broken on the train , and the heat was unbearable. A bead of sweat slid down her forehead and ran down her cheek, she wiped it away, he white silk gloves grubby from carrying a suitcase. Staring out the window, she watched the scenery whiz past , I n a whirl of green and yellow.

Her phone buzzed on the seat next to her. Her Mother. She pressed the answer button and watched the phone as her mother screeched from the other side .

“VICTORIA! Where on this Blooming Earth are you ?! You’re getting married. Today! For Christ’s Sake Victori-”

She sighed and ended the call.

“No I’m not. Not today.” She said to herself she slumped back in her seat, her big white gown bunched up around her.

Victoria was a pretty petite girl, long wavy blonde hair, and green eyes, surrounded by thick curled eyelashes, her features were small and pixie like, except for her eyes, their hazy green colour made them so much more entrancing, most of her friends had said it was as though they could see into their souls. But that just made her more appealing, because she accepted them just the same, Victoria was her parents most prized procession, the apple of her fathers eyes, her mothers most precious jewel. She was smart too , training to be a heart surgeon. That was how she had met D’Angelo, her future husband, and future father to her children.

As Victoria gazed out the window, she let her mind wander, and it wandered back to how they had met.

Victoria was at a restaurant , with a man she had met at work, only he was training to be a doctor, it was a date, the poor guy didn’t stand a chance, he found her spellbinding and mesmerising, just like everyone else. But this date couldn’t have been going any worse. Victoria was dressed to impress, she looked like a model , only a short one, because most models are very tall, He however looked like a slob in am old suit. D’Angelo was at the bar, watching the date crash and burn, he had caught her eyes and they exchanged glances all throughout the horrendous date. When the guy decided to call it quits, and lead Victoria out and into a Taxi, D’Angelo followed, watching the guy walk across the street, he speedily walked over and got into Victoria’s taxi. He looked very smart, dressed in a grey tailored suit, and his thick dark hair, tidy and sleek, he had blazing blue eyes which were unusual because he was half Italian,

“Hello, I’m D’Angelo.” his Italian twang rang through his words, he smiled revealing nice straight teeth,

“Victoria, “ she put her hand forward for a shake, he grabbed it and slowly pulled it to his lips, and kissed it gently. His eyes boring into hers the whole time, she smiled and patted him on the cheek, He laughed at the gesture.

“Take us to Andy’s” he spoke to the driver, Victoria pulled her silver dress down a little to half way down her thigh , it had risen up since she’d gotten into the cab, soon they were at the club, and D’Angelo helped her out , the walked right in , and sat in a booth, enjoying the music and drinking , not to get drunk , but for the social aspect to it all , neither one of them had more than their first drink ,

“Would you like to walk with me?” D’Angelo slid smoothly out of the booth and looked expectantly at Victoria, he was captivated by her, she was the beauty and the brains, and angel in disguise ,he thought

“Uhm, Yeah, Okay” she smiled at D’Angelo, The went for a walk along the river, when D’Angelo pulled her round and started to sway ,and twirl her around, they both had a good time, and after a midnight stroll and dance , D’Angelo took her home.

“Good night Victoria.” he smiled kindly at her, she was standing in his arms, and he bent his head down and kissed her on the forehead, “Sleep well.” he said as he walked away, pulling her hand until it fell out of his.

“good night D’Angelo.” she smiled after him , and walked into her apartment.

That was two years ago, and they were supposed to be married today, this years biggest event, all of D’Angelo’s family from England and Italy were coming over, All of Victoria’s family from Vermont were coming over too , and the families had spent a whole year organizing it. The decorations, cake , dress were magnificent, unbelievably gorgeous, the church was big , and surrounded by greenery, picture perfect, and in an easy location for the out of town family members to find. Today would have been radically perfect. If she hadn’t had a phone call this morning…

Victoria’s phone buzzed again, Only this time It was Vinny, D’Angelo’s big brother, one of them anyway. She picked it up and held it to her ear, “Vinny, “ she said ,

“Ehh, Victoria.. How are you doing.?” He sounded unsure of how to speak to her, he always had been that way around her, Victoria stared at something in the distance, taking a pause for a breathe, she sighed and then said,

“Vinny. I know.” The line went dead.
