Chapter 9He said, She said

WHEN DELPHI SHOWED UP TO VICTORIA'S LAIR AFTER A WEEK, she said nothing.

Victoria was leant against the railing of the balcony, looking out at the city. Dressed in all white, she almost looked innocent, but her clothes were just as wild as her hair. She looked just like all of the other citizens of Seattle, but even still she didn't belong.

She was familiar with this site, the wild-haired woman leaning against the balcony railing waiting for the newborn to find herself in her home once again.

When Riley spotted her he said, "Well, looks like you've calmed down. It only took you a week."

It seemed that he was done with protecting her from Victoria's wrath.

"Oh?" Victoria questioned. She shifted just a little, but it was enough for all her hair to fall to the other side, springing in movement.

"Delphi over here had a little mental breakdown last week. She lost her mind," his eye flickered to her neck where the necklace would've rested, "among other things."

Victoria looked from Riley to Delphi, in the past few months she'd enjoyed their bickering but she wouldn't let her mission be on the line.

"Okay, listen up. I'm only going to say this once. You've got to manage whatever issue between you two so it doesn't interfere with my goal."

Victoria slipped into her loft and out just as she did the red leather vest before she left.

LAYING ON THE ROOF OF THE SPACE NEEDLE ONCE AGAIN, Delphi and Bree watched the giant balls of gas burning in the sky.

When the newborns were let out that night with the only instruction to come back before first light, Delphi took Bree for some much needed alone time after their feed.

All night they talked. About how when they were still human they wouldn't be able to see the stars because of the city lights. About what got them to Seattle. About what their life would be like when they left.

They talked and talked until the romance became the topic of choice. "You like him don't you?"

Just a couple of undead girls having some quality girl time.

"Hm? Who?" Bree turned to face her, her short hair brushing against her collar bone and falling at an angle to reveal the jagged bite-mark on her neck.

"You know. Diego, sometimes I've seen you watching him"

"Is it that obvious?"

"Even if I couldn't see the future, it'd still be clear as day."

"Yeah well, nothing gonna happen. Not in this lifetime."

"And you're saying this after seeing the way he looks at you? And that way you look at him. I'd kill for that.

"Delphi, you're the type of girl everyone likes, even the ones who don't do. I'm sure you had guys falling at your feet. "

"But I didn't have a chance to follow up on those feelings. Perhaps you should do something about it."
