Chapter Two
Mark was in his dark room smiling as he developed his pictures. These were the ones he took yesterday in the park. This one in particular was of that girl, Dawn. He had been thinking of her ever since she walked away from him.
He hung the picture to dry as he stared at it. The light bouncing off the surface of the lake and casting the most magnificent light on her face. The light showed off her strong yet delicate features. The red of her hair looked so dark that in this lighting making it look to be almost black.
But what caught him were her eyes. They were a beautiful blue green that he almost saw her soul in them. A soul he will admit looked to be in pain. There was so much in the beauty that looked like she hid her beauty from everyone. He couldn't help taking the picture when he saw her sitting there under the weeping willows just looking at the lake.
He completed developing all the pictures and went out to the main room of his studio. He's been grateful that with everything that happened that he still had his studio and his condo. He was actually liking the slow time the whole ex-fiancee momentary bad blood fiasco had given him. He didn't know how stressed he had gotten till almost all his jobs canceled and he had nothing to do.
He took the time to get back to who he once was. He took pictures of all sorts of things and anything that caught his eye. He's taken a lot of unique shots of anything and everything. There was so much life out there that he had been missing. He was finding his viewpoint again. What he really saw when he saw the world.
He spread out his pictures and the one that fell in front of him was the picture of the girl again. He moved the others away and rested his head in his hand with his elbow on the table. He was just staring at the picture again.
"Dawn." He breathed her name like a whispered moan. He found her name so beautiful and seemed like who she really was deep inside. Someone who shines brightly, but she's been eclipsed by something. Clouds cover up her beautiful rays.
"Wha'cha looking at?" Mark jerked back and then fell off his stool to the floor. He looked up to a woman with raven black hair with deep purple when the light hit it standing a few feet away from the table. Beautiful black wings flowed from behind her. A tail flicking every so often behind her.
"Patience!" Mark whined as he laid down flat on the floor. His arms spread out beside him almost in defeat. "You know not to sneak up on me like that. You could have given me a heart attack."
She giggled as she walked over to the long flat worktable. She looked over and saw what he was looking at. She raised an eyebrow down at him. "A girl huh? She doesn't seem your type."
"She's just someone I saw at the park yesterday. I just had to take her picture. It was the perfect picture. Artistically speaking." He just lied, didn't he? She looked perfect.
"Is that the only reason?" Patience quarried as she looked down at Mark where he laid on the floor still. Knowing full well that he had lied to her. "I can tell when there is something more with you. We have known each other for a very, very long time you know."
He sighed. "There's just something about her. I begged her to tell me her name. ME! BEG! Can you even imagine that?"
"So tell me what happened." Patience slid onto a stool and waited.
Mark sighs and told Patience about Dawn. How he saw her sitting down and stare out. How she looked. How he felt. How he wanted to hear her voice. That she asked to be alone, but he felt she didn't need that, but knew no other way to live. He had felt drawn to her like moth to a flame.
"Oh Mark. You're in love." Her eyes sympathized with him. The way he spoke of this girl, she could only draw to this one conclusion. He had fallen head over heels for this girl with one look and one word.
Mark sighed. "I don't know. I just met her once. There's no way I could have..." He swallowed. "It would be nice, but its impossible." He felt lost and felt he would never met her again. "I'll not see her again." He got up and found the second image of Dawn. "She walked away." He handed the picture to her and turned away.
"Mark." Patience whispered as she let the picture fall to the table and touched his shoulder. His shoulders slumped. She turned him and hugged him. "Let fate run her course. You'll see her again."
"Could I really be in love? I thought love at first sight was fiction. Just look at us." Patience had been his fiancee. She was the reason he was a changed man. He had cheated on her and broke off their engagement blaming her, but it was all his fault. She forgave him and healed him. He wasn't the selfish man he once was with her. Any darkness that had been brewing inside of him died the night she forgave him.
"We were different. We weren't meant to be. I was meant for Darius and you could be meant for her. Dawn. Your light."
Mark let go and took a step back. "There must be a reason you came here. Not to just hear about a girl that may or may not been my soulmate."
"Oh! Yay. I have a job for you if you want it."
Mark tilted his head to the side. "Job?"
"Yeah. Ang and Darien want a family portrait and also need a photographer for a party they are throwing in four weeks. I thought you might like the chance to start again."
"They're really willing to give me a job? Even after everything?"
"Yes. We had discussed it and they loved the idea. You have really turned for the better. They see it too."
Mark looked at the pictures spread out. "It would be nice to have a paid job." He looked over at Patience. "So how's married life?"
She took on a dreamy gaze. "Darius is perfect. It still feels new and exciting. He makes it new and exciting." Patience smiled and graced the table with her fingertips as she walked around.
"I'm glad you're happy. You deserve it."
She stopped at looked at him. "So do you. Its been what... over a year since you had anyone other than a one night stand." She knows he hasn't even had a one night stand in a while as well.
Mark turned his back to the table and leaned against it. "I just need time to feel worthy of having someone. I don't want to do to them what I did to you." He could talk honestly with her because they were just that close. They had always been close, but after everything, they both seem even closer. Like brother and sister close now.
Patience took his hand and held it between hers. "You won't because you know better now." She looked down at the picture of the girl in the park. "I could try to 'see' where she is. I have gotten a lot better at that now."
Mark looked over his shoulder at the picture. After he contemplated her offer seriously, he decided shaking his head. "No. Let her be. She asked to be left alone. We should honor her request. If fate deems it, I will see her again."
Patience smiled liking that he's thinking of Dawn, not himself. "And if by chance I...oh see something?"
"If it is something bad then you can tell me. Other than that, don't tell me." He eyed her. The one thing he always loved about her was her selflessness. She would do anything for anyone. Sometimes she did it even if they asked her not to, but it was always for the best.
Patience pulled out her phone and looked at the time. "Sorry, but I should be getting back to the agency. I have a client in an hour."
Mark turned to her and hugged her this time. He kissed her cheek brotherly. "See you later. Say hi to Darius for me."
"I will. And don't worry, you'll see her again. I just know it." She said with a giggle. She did see a flash of him sitting next to the girl in the park when he kissed her cheek.
Mark stepped back and pointed his finger at her. "Don't tell me. Got it." She did a sharp nod and gave a salute to him. He chuckled as she left his studio. He just loved how fun she could be around him.
