Taehyung's POV
I sat under the stars naming constellations with Jimin, basking in his presence. We had grown pretty close over the past two years that I had been in Daegu, since we lived a street away.
"Hyung," I started. "Do you ever wonder what the future will bring?"
He turned over to face me on the grass. "I personally don't. Just live in the present and enjoy the moment while it lasts."
"Oh." I said flatly.
"What do you wanna be when you grow up, anyway?" He said.
"I dunno. Probably a singer." I replied.
He gazed at the sky, the galaxy reflected in his inky black eyes.
"If you hadn't gotten in that accident of yours would you have done things differently?"
My face clouded over. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, would you still have gone to Daegu?" He said.
"I don't think so. My mom had a decent job as a model there, but I guess she didn't want me to have to live in the same city that I nearly died in." I said. "But she isn't doing so well here. There aren't as many openings here and it gets hard to earn a living."
"I get you." He said warmly.
"Thanks, Chim." I said.
"I guess fate brought us here." He smiled, his face scrunching up endearingly.

Jungkook's POV
"Catch me if you can, Jungkook!" He called.
"My pleasure, Tae." I said. I snagged his jacket and we toppled into the lake, limbs flailing around.
I remember his almond eyes, coffee brown and intent. His boxy smile when he wore that necklace, his cheeks dusted pink.
"Bye Kookie." He whispered.
"Bye Tae."
The screams. The wail of sirens. I dropped my keys and bolted out of the door. It was too late. His frail body limp on the road. His eyes glassy and blank. The blood trickling down his angelic face. The voices flooded my head, the words reverberating against my skull.
"Why didn't you help him?"
"It was all your fault,"
"Coward."
I was too late.
I came to, waking up in a cold sweat. My hands trembled and my breathing was ragged, my lips cracked and dry. My pillowcase was stained with tears. I was on the verge of crying once more. The flashbacks have been tormenting me for weeks now, the eerie voices threatening to kill. I unlocked my phone, staring at my home screen. Me and Tae at 14, wild and oblivious. I adjusted to the glare. It was 2:56 am. I walked to my dresser in a trance, the throbbing in my head mildly subduing.
I pulled open the drawer and felt around the bottom. A comb, paperclips, and a cheap metal blade. I inspected the blade carefully then impulsively drove it into my left arm. I could see flashes of his boxy smile.
One cut, two cuts, three. The pain seared into my brain, but the relief was overwhelming. I dragged the blade into my skin.
Four, five, six seven.
I looked at the scratched bloody mess I had made, smiling faintly. I sighed inwardly, flopping onto the floor.
"The things you make me do."
