Jailtime...That's what fighting at school can get you if you're eighteen.
In their case, age was the only thing keeping them safe. Well, keeping Taehyung safe.
"Are you okay after what happened?" I ask him as we walk through the front lawn of the school. "I'm fine Kasey, for the third time." he chuckles.
"I didn't take you as the violent type, you seem so...innocent," I say with a low almost whispering tone. "Kasey, I'm only that way when provoked." He smiled nudging my arm a bit with his.
He says my name a lot and I can't place whether I find it weird or if I like it. Is he trying to burn it into his brain? Does he like the way it sounds?
"What if someone else is provoked?" I ask stopping in my tracks. His eyes furrow and he turns around when he notices I've stopped walking beside him. "What do you mean?" he asks, eyes wondering almost frantically.
I stared closely at his face when he turned to look at me. His breathing sped up, almost like he was panicking. "What if someone was being hurt...And you saw?" I force out slowly, my throat felt as if I had swallowed a gallon of sand.
"Well, it depends on the situation I guess," he says looking away from me. If he knew what I was talking about, why would he be nervous? Why am I so nervous?
I could've just left it alone, stopped talking about it, left him alone. Maybe I should've.
Taehyung turned around and began walking when I stopped talking and I couldn't just let him walk away. "Taehyung!" I call out to him. He quickly turns around and I run to him.
"What?" he questioned with a slight chuckle. I threw my body onto him, squeezing his waist tightly. "Thank you." I murmured happily into the lower half of his chest considering the fact that I'm short.
"For what?" He asks looking down at me with a warm smile.
I let out a large sigh at how clueless he actually seemed to be. "For everything..." I said before walking up in front of him.
He seemed stunned by my reaction as he stood with his mouth open and eyes slightly wide. I turned around as I walked backward and looked back at his frozen state. "You must not be very used to human interaction." I laugh. "Aren't you coming?" I asked shaking my head.
I turned back around and kept walking with a smile on my face. He ran up beside me and we exited the campus, moving quickly in hopes to get away as fast as possible.
We went to a local park and sat on a bench amongst thick trees in a garden-like semi-circle, barely spying a path out of it.
"So Taehyung...What brings you here?" I asked pulling my bag beside me on the bench. "Well, I moved from a-...A small town. My parents thought I'd have a better chance in a bigger city...I think they were wrong if I'm being quite honest." he says, hanging his head low.
"Why do you think that?" I ask unzipping my bag and sticking my hand all the way to the bottom. "Because I've been here a week and I've gotten into more trouble, and been endangered more times than I have in my entire life." he scoffs leaning back on the bench, facing the bright clouds, except his eyes...were closed.
I stopped searching my bag for food like a hungry raccoon and leaned back as well. I was about to close my eyes when I noticed how beautifully the sunlight made his skin glow. He seemed practically asleep, so I decided to wave my hand in front of his face.
Nothing.
I brought my face closer to his to inspect his features up close, kind of turning my head to see from awkward angles. It was a creepy way to go about remembering his features, but I've never been quite normal.
I giggle when I notice a small beauty mark on his nose. "What are you doing?" He interrupts scaring the shit out of me. His eyes were still closed, telling me he knew I had been doing this for at least two minutes now.
"Nothing..." I say quickly going back to my frantic food search. He opens his eyes and laughs. He was looking around and twitching his leg in what seemed to be anticipation.
"Got it!" I yelled when I felt my small fingers grip onto the bag of hot Cheetos I kept in case of an emergency. He chuckles and I immediately look up at him. "What?" I ask with wide eyes. "Nothing, you're just so...cinematic." he smiles. This is coming from the most ethereal boy I've ever seen.
"Yeah, right. Says the boy with flawless skin, a sun glowing tan, and bright red hair! An to top it all off...You're a protector." I purposefully exaggerate.
He laughs and looks down in a shy and humble way. "I've got ashy knees, acne, dull brown hair, and I fear everything," I say opening the bag. The realization truly hit me as the words came out of my mouth. I don't really like who I am.
"Hey..." he says lifting my face to look at him with his index finger. Like in the romantic movies. "You're perfect, and I don't know how many times I'll have to say that," he said extremely serious.
"You don't even know me," I said looking away and back at my bag of diabetes. "You're right," he says bringing his arm back to himself.
"Chivalry is dead TaeTae," I said jokingly as I popped one of the red dusty corn chips into my mouth. "It's not dead until I am." he laughed. "There's only one of you and a billion girls who can't even experience it" I chuckle tilting the bag of red powdery corn chips to the boy.
"My job is done as long as I can let one of those billion girls to know they're beautiful." He says turning back to me and taking one.
"inside and out, I'm sure." He said looking out into the distance while popping the chip into his mouth.
Taehyung has known me only a few days, and he somehow is trying to work his way into my heart. I would love to let him, but as far as I'm concerned, whenever I actually like someone, something comes between us.
I decided in those moments I'd keep him at arm's length. It'd have been easier to say goodbye If I actually would've done that.
