"What happened sweetie?" Mom asked as soon as I entered the house. "The counseler tried to get me to talk and I ran out yesterday but stayed today." I said. "Not that! What happened to your face?" She asked. "Some kid was picking on me so I did what I had to do." I lied. "What did you do?" She asked. "We fought. He threw a couple punches and left this on my face and I broke his nose and black eye with a busted lip." I smiled. "It's not funny. Ross I'm scared for you." She says. She then takes hold of my arm and sits with me on the couch. She hugs me. I hug her back. Unlike my dad, my mom actually cares for me. Even if I was to tell about the abuse, he would use his fortune to bail himself out. "Why mom?" I ask. "Because first that vicious act against Laura and now fighting. You might end up in jail before you even break any of your rules about the restraining order." She says. I just listen to her. I'm willing to talk to her about it. "Mom?" I say. She pats my head. "Hm?" She says. "Why won't Laura talk to me?" I ask even though I already new the answer. "Because of what you did to her." She says. "I didn't do anything to her." I say. "Yes you did sweetie. Until you tell us why then you'll be in counseling even after 5 months." She says. "I'm sorry mom. I love you." I say to her. She smiles. "I love you too. Don't do anything that may worry me and get you locked up." She said. "I- no promises." I say. She chuckles. "I miss you." She smiled. "I'm the same old me." I say. "No. You changed. "Change for me. I want you to change for me." She smiled. "Laura you know I can't even if I try." I say to her. "Yes you can. I love you and I know you can." She said and wrapped her arms around my neck. "Your something. You know that." I say taking hold of her waist. "So I've heard." She giggles. I chuckle. "Your cute. Did you know that?" I ask. "Of course. You tell me everyday." She says. I smile. "Why are you?" I ask. She giggles. "Why are you?" She asks. "Tell you what. How about we go on a date tonight?" I ask her. "As long as you promise not to make fun of anybody and get us kicked out."She says looking up at me sternly. "You already know even if I end up promising, I'll end up breaking it." I smile sheepishly. "Well how about you prove to me tonight that you can keep promises. It is a way to start changing. If you do so, I'll give you a treat." She winks. I smirk. "Deal. If not kept, I will march back into the place and insult everybody." I say. She giggles and nods. "Deal. Now how long are you going to keep me waiting?" She asks. I tilt my head. She rolls her eyes and kisses me. I kiss her back while pulling her closer to me.

"Ross? Ross!!!?" My mom screamed. "Sorry, I must've zoned out." I say. She laughs. "It's okay. You can take a nap here while I make dinner." She says. "Okay thanks mom." I say. She smiles gets up. "What would you like?" She asks. "As long as you make it, it doesn't matter. I love all your cooking." I tell her. "Aww thank you sweetie." She says. "Your welcome mom." I say. She leans down and kisses my cheek. I smile as she walks away.

"Ross!! Dinner!!" She called and I got up. I walked over and saw that guy over there.He will no longer be consider my father. He glared at me. I send him a smile and sit at the table. He's not gonna get the best of me. "This is amazing mom." I say. She smiles. "Why thank you sweetie. Mark. What do you think?" She asks him. "Good as always." He forces a smile. My mom's smile slightly falters. Like said before, why did she marry him?
