The aching in my stomach.
The burning in my throat.
The lingering taste in my mouth consisting of the evening prior's breakfast, and stomach acids.
It haunts.
It taunts.
It doesn't go away. No matter what.
But, why?
I want it to leave.
Why won't it go?
I can't sleep. My head hurts now.
I lie awake in bed, for hours on end, wishing it would just stop.
But it doesn't.
It won't listen.
LISTEN TO ME.
I close my eyes.
It's still there.
