The guards escorted me to my new block with my father because I was still responsible for him and teaching him our rules and boundaries here. I looked back once at my old squad of fellow wolves. We made a sign to each other that showed we were going to still be together even in my new squad. It was tapping the bridge of our noses, right between our eyes.
"This place has more cameras, why?" My father asked me.
"This is the Duel Ability Facility Block. We're here because I have two powers after drinking Summer's blood. It's normal to drink the blood of a failed soldier, only if you're the one who wrote their name on the Wall of Failed Soldiers. I was appointed by my old squad. In here, I'll have a new one. You'll catch on eventually to the basics here. It also took me a few days," I said, putting my things into my new drawers and hanging up my uniform. I stepped out for a moment.
"I have a question. Do I need to wear my uniform and train today due to my new Block even though I must inform my father of the changes here?" I asked. The guard shook his head 'no' before scoffing at a 19 year old wolf. I nodded and retreated to my room. My print was already installed into the room's keypad, the mechanics were the same.
The man who had raised me since birth but I couldn't remember was sitting at the table in the corner of the metallic silver and white room, he motioned me over, "Come sit, May!" He smiled at me.
I sat down across from him and looked at him with a blank stare, my hand were on the table with my fingers laced together, "What is it you wanted to discuss, Father?" I asked. I could tell he wasn't used to me in this state when I guess I was a child who was always smiling and laughing. I couldn't imagine what my younger self looked like.
"They've brainwashed you, haven't they? I'm worried for you," he said with up turned brows and tear prickled eyes. I turned my head to the window beside us. They resembled a prison cell, it was normal for me to see windows like that. He slid a paper across the table. I saw two young girls in dresses, an older woman in a longer dress and a man in a flannel and cargo shorts. He pointed at the younger of the two children, "That little girl was you. Long lovely hair, that big smile and cute laughter. I miss that little girl, May. I miss the younger you!" He said and put his rough hand over mine. I pulled away and stood, pushing in my chair.
I folded my arms and looked out the window, "I cannot accept or tend to your needs. I have been like this for four years, I have adopted this as my life. I've let go of my past, you still need to. Besides, I think I'd rather be a soldier than a free range wolf in the woods. Our rules are strict, but, we refuse to break our set boundaries. Unless it's mind, body and spiritual boundaries. We must break those to become the strongest, the best, the fastest, the thing we were meant to be all along," I looked at him. "I realize the costs, we may change completely on the outside and become someone new. But that comes with the loss of your humor and humanity," It was a clear warning for him to shape up and understand that this will happen to him. He must understand and face what he fears to match up to me and the other cadets.
