Mrs Chukwuebuka, mother of David, Precious and Miracle Chukwuebuka suffered thick prosecution from her kinsmen. She was accused of practicing witchcraft. She was accused of eating up her male children and sparing her female children. This was before David chukwuebuka was born.
On various occasion, she was seen crying and weeping over the rumours which has been disseminated in her hometown. She could no longer walk the street as usual. One Sunday evening after attending to her guest, she decided to sit at the veranda and stare at the sky. As she looked into sky and saw the cloud rotating, she remembered her youth age, how she played the street with no disturbances. She remembered clearly the day she first saw her husband in her father's farm. Tears dropped her eyes as she remembered the day her father gave her into marriage. "Oh blessed be that day when I knew my husband, the first man to see my nakedness" she soliloquize. "Ify, IFY" her husband called from the sitting room. She was lost in thoughts that she couldn't hear the scream. . Emmanuel her husband was surprised not to hear an answer from his wife. He decided to go check what was going on. As he reached for the door, he saw his wife at the veranda staring at the cloud crying. He walked up to her from behind grabbed her shoulder. "How many times have I told you not to let gossips take over you?, cheer up, clean your eyes lets go to bed" her husband told her with a calm voice. She looked at her husband, held his hands as he helped her pull her from the little stool she sat on. They had a blissful night."Oh my Goodness! I'm late.. I haven't prepared d kids breakfast, I haven't bath them either" She lamented as she rushed down from her bed. She ran to the kitchen boiled water on one side of gas for the kids to bath and the second gas she used to prepare the children breakfast.
Emmanuel was already off to work so she had minus one mouth in the meal she was cooking. She looked at the kitchen clock... It broadly showed her seven thirty two am. She rushed to wake to the kids room to wake them up to have their bath. "Mum, you hit me so hard in my leg" Precious lamented. "Oh, my dear I'm sorry but you have to stand up from that bed before I get there now" she replied. Precious grudgingly dragged her feet to bedroom as Mrs Chukwuebuka went to get the hot water which was whistling. At last! She was done with kid, she served them their breakfast, they all ate and were ready for school.
Two weeks after that day, Ifeoma began noticing some unusual pains in her stomach. She thought it was mere menstrual pain and she could get well. As Days passed and it grew more worst. She decided to tell her husband. "Darling, I think I need to see the doctor" Ifeoma complained. Emmanuel her husband was shocked to hear this from his "it been a while we went to see the doctor, the last time we went to the doctor was for the post natal care for David's birth" Emmanuel replied. "I really need to see the doctor. I'm dying inside. Pls!!! My husband we really need to see the doctor before things gets out of hand" she lamented.
Few minute into the argument, Ifeoma began to feel an uproar in her stomach. This time it grew worst as she felt something moving up to her oesophagus. She ran quickly to the basin. Gosh!! She made a mess of the innocent sink. She vomited but the color of the vomit was unusual not looking like any food she has eaten within the past twenty four hours. She turned to her husband "now will you or will you not carry me to see the doctor?" She asked. Emmanuel was caught up and had nothing to say than to drive her to see the doctor.
They arrived at the hospital but this time Ifeoma felt sluggish than before. " I think I have malaria" Ifeoma complained. "And who's the doctor that told you that?. Thank God we are here to see the doctor" Emmanuel replied in an annoying tone. Ifeoma was running out of temperature and started shivering. As they walked towards the doctor's office, Ifeoma temperature grew more high than before. Suddenly, she started feeling dizzy. "I can't see anything here. Darling please can u help me to the doctor's office" Ifeoma cried from behind. Emmanuel swerved backward on hearing his sweetheart voice. He ran towards her and cuddled her til they both reached the doctor office.
"How can I help you?" The doctor asked the couple. Emmanuel wanted his wife to speak but on seeing the condition she was at that point time, he decided to speak. "Earlier today, she insisted on seeing you that she has been a sharp pain her stomach lately. Things came to worst when we arrived here. She complained of having malaria while we were outside and on coming to your office she became dizzy" Emmanuel explained. "Alright, that means she needs to perform a test to clarify what's truly wrong with her" the doctor told the husband. Emmanuel agreed to let his wife go for the test. As Ifeoma and the doctor walked toward the laboratory Emmanuel began soliloquizing "what if she is pregnant or is suffering from a serious body pain?, what if it's fibroid stones found in her stomach?, what if she has nephritis? Oh! My God I really need your help now. I pray it's something good". The doctor and Ifeoma were done with the blood collection and they headed back to the doctor's office. Emmanuel was still lost in thought when they came back. "Hello Sir" the doctor tried to regain Emma concentration but due to what he was thinking about, he didn't hear the calling. The doctor repeated this for three consecutive time before he decided to tap him on his arm. Emmanuel shivered when the doctor tapped him on his arm. "Yes Sir, how did it go?, what's the problem with her?. She's my only sweetheart and I can't withstand her suffering" Emma asked the doctor with a curious tone. "Don't be in a hurry sir! We have not done the test on her. I just collected her blood and I promise before tomorrow everything will be settled sir" the doctor replied in a calm tone. Emmanuel looked at his wife who was already showing sign of weakness and tiredness. He looked at the doctor anxiously. He told the doctor he will be on his way and will be back tomorrow for the result. They both shook their hands as the Chukwuebuka's left the office.
The next day, Ifeoma was OK and more better than the previous day. "Oh! My lovely wife, how sweet seeing you looking good today. I'm off to work. Take care of the kids" Emmanuel jokingly told Ifeoma. Ifeoma smiled, winked at her husband, ran to him for a hug and then she wished him best of luck in his work place. Emmanuel waved at her and then left for work. Ifeoma was not aware of the appointment with the doctor today, so, she never went to the hospital. After work, while coming home Emmanuel decided to branch to the doctor's office for the test result. He arrived at the hospital and headed for the doctor's office. The doctor looked him in his face shook his head and then asked for his client name. He called his wife name. The doctor sent for the nurse and then ordered the nurse to go get two file which he kept in the laboratory. Wow! The nurse was as fast as anything. She brought the files, handed it over the doctor. "No Sir, this is not my wife test result. My wife cannot be HIV positive. I am not HIV positive and my wife had been a faithful spouse, I don't know where you got this from or maybe this is a mistake" Emma lamented. "I was shocked too when I saw it. Your wife looked beautiful and attractive. And I saw the love play you both executed here. This is your result lab don't lie" the doctor replied. Emmanuel was disjointed and lost in thought. He continued thinking what would have brought about his wife having such veneral disease disease. "It could only be that she's unfaithful" he thought. As he was thinking he stood up and was heading towards the door when the doctor called him back to sit down. The doctor smiled at Mr Chukwuebuka. EMMA looked at doctor hysterically and was thinking what was funny about the situation. "Give me that file that does not belong to you, I only used it to test your faith in your wife if she was an unfaithful fellow or a true mother, have this.. This is your result not that" the doctor smiled while giving Emmanuel the test paper. Emmanuel doubted the doctor and we thinking this could more of what was in his hand now. He collected the wrapped letter from the doctor. His breathe became tense at the moment. "Hallelujah" he screamed as he read the letter. "Doctor you made me scared, you are a real joker" he playfully told the Doctor. "My wife is pregnant, all praise be to the lord. Now I can boast of a fourth child. I really need to see my wife now she will be very happy to see this" Emmanuel said anxiously. The doctor shook hands with Emmanuel as he walked toward the door and headed back for home.
On his way home, he bought nice gifts for the children and bought expensive items for his wife. All the way home, Emmanuel repeatedly smiled and greeted all drivers who drove beside him. Finally, he arrived home. He tiptoed to the kitchen was with the letter. He came from behind grabbed her waist and kissed her cheek Ifeoma asked how market was for the day. Emma started singing and brought of the letter to show his wife. She thought it was a cheque. "How much is in here?" She asked. Emma became confused and asked her what she was talking about. Ifeoma opened it, brought out letter, read it and broke down in tears. "If not the lord then who will I hold on to?" Ifeoma asked rhetorically. She too started singing as she praised the lord more than her husband did. She was two weeks pregnant.
Ifeoma called her mum the next day to inform her about her new blessing. Her mum became happy, called her friends and told them about her daughter situation. This was only the beginning of Ifeoma tears. Ifeoma called her friends too to tell them too about her testimony.
Six month later, Ifeoma began to feel some abnormalities in her pregnancy. Instead of her stomach to keep coming out, it started deflating. She was surprised and then went to the doctor to complain. The doctor performed a X-ray on her to determine what the problem was. After the X-ray reading, the doctor told Ifeoma "Madam, according to our X-ray reading, we found out that there's no baby in your womb. The stuff in your womb is nothing but a lizard and you need to flush it now or be disgraced during childbirth". Ifeoma became aggrieved. She was shocked. She could not believe those words came out of a medical personnel. She left the hospital to never return in shame. She ran to the church, to the altar. There she lamented her pains and sorrow to God. Her friends tried consoling her but it didn't make no difference. Her face turned torrent. She went to the pastor to complained her grievance. The PASTOR gave her a little hope, encouraging not to let the devil into her life because of her situation. " If God really need your child to live, he will live. God knows best" he solemnly explained to her. She felt strong, pulled her self together and headed home. In few weeks time, the stomach became normal (out and protruding).
During the cost of pregnancy, she had a trance where the lord told her to name her child two names, "Chisimdi and Glory". Chisimdi meaning the lord let him be alive, Glory dignifying the good deeds and dignity the birth if this child brought to the family.
It is time for labor. Ifeoma pushed hard, brought her baby out. Guess what?, she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. I'm feeling cool. She did not die neither her child died. But I'm sad, someone at other ward at the extreme end died. What a grieve?. The lord be your strength ma'am.
