Sal
"Sally Face!"
"Larry Face!"
It made me strangely happy, that short exchange. Like I was normal. Maybe to Larry, I was. He was a pretty strange dude in the best of ways.
"Come on, Sal." (Y/N) beckoned to me, her glass eyes fixed on my face. I wondered briefly if she could see me right now. Could she control it? "No, I can't. It comes and goes as it pleases. Now come on, I'm tired of holding this door open." Shocked, I followed her out of the elevator.
"Did I say that out loud?"
She shook her head, already turning left and walking on. "No, I just felt it. Hey, Chug! I gotta ask ya something."
"Oh hey, (Y/N)." Chug was indeed quite hard to miss. He was well overweight with a sprout of green hair poking out from under his hat. He took a loud bite from the chocolate bar in his hand. "What's up? Who's your new friend?"
"This is Sal, Sal this is Chug. That's just his name."
I nodded. Of course she knew I was about to ask. She continued on, apparently deciding that I was going to be incapable of completing this interaction to her satisfaction. "Chug, I need that key you found to the bathroom on floor five."
"What?" He blinked at her. "How did you know I had that?"
"You told me, remember? Now hand it over. I'll buy you chocolate later or something."
"I don't remember telling you, but you know a lot of things you shouldn't, so I guess I won't question it." He rifled through his pockets with his free hand, eventually producing a small key. "Here you go. I'll hold you to that promise, by the way."
"Yeah, yeah, I'll pay you tomorrow. Let's go, Sally, you'll talk to Chug later." She dashed away from us both and I waved to Chug before following.
"Now where?"
"Floor one." She pressed the button. "We need a cup of tea." The elevator began its slow descent, shaking slightly in the way only old, cheap ones do. When the door opened, she moved to stand in its way of closing, but didn't leave beyond that. "Get the tea and get back here. And don't drink it."
"Alright." I didn't bother to ask why. If she knew, she would probably have already told me. I walked up to the only door in the complex with a mail slot and knocked gently. The mail slot, engraved with the word Addison, creaked as it opened and a pair of eyes peeked out.
"Ah! Young Sal Fisher! What can I do for you, my fine gentleman?"
"Addison tea, please and thank you." That was it, wasn't it? Maybe I should have asked Larry again... But no, apparently my memory served me right, because Addison chirped, "Coming right up!" and vanished, only to reappear as a hand holding a small cup of tea. "You keep that cup and give it back when you want a refill, alright?"
"Yes sir. Thank you very much." I took the 'tea' and glanced down at its dark surface. It seemed a bit... Thick to be tea.
"Anytime my good sir!" The mail slot squealed shut again and I made my way back to (Y/N), holding my cup carefully so that none of the liquid inside splashed out onto my skin. It smelled funny. I could see why she'd told me and Larry not to drink it.
"Alright, I've got it."
"I can see that. Let's go." She slid back into the elevator alongside me and pressed the button for floor five. I didn't question her. The elevator hadn't even stopped before she was pressing the Open Door button.
