Another scream, another sickening emergence, and the little girl was back.
"Where did you get that game?"
I slowly lowered my GearBoy. "(Y/N) gave it to me. I don't know what it is, the label is gone."
She shifted, her little hands held protectively close to her chest. "It reminded me of something."
"Really? What was it?"
She shook her head. She looked scared. "I..." She shook her head again. "I can't. I'm sorry. Please leave me alone." She sunk back into the floor.
"Come on, Sally." (Y/N)'s hand on my arm pulled me from my momentary stupor. "That was all. Get the tea and let's go."
I followed her, the cup in my hands, as she sped walked out of the bathroom and out the door, Chug following close behind. The second the door shut (Y/N) gave a shaky exhale. "I feel dirty," she whined. Then she sniffed and it hit me that she was crying. "Can we just go and get-" she took a shaky breath, "-the glitter pony?"
"I don't know what you're doing," Chug half waddled past us, making a beeline to the elevator. "And I don't want to know. I'll see you guys later."
"Bye Chug." (Y/N) raised her hand even though Chug's back was to her. "That mug you lost rolled under your bed."
"Huh. Thanks." He raised his mostly eaten chocolate bar in a toast before stepping into the elevator. The doors shut a moment later.
(Y/N) wiped at her eyes. "I hate crying... But it hurts so much in there..."
"You didn't have to come in." I reached out to her, wanting to comfort her, but I didn't even know why she was hurting so how could I make it better? "Do you... Wanna talk about it?"
"You'll see it yourself... Eventually. I'd rather you not have to think about it until then." She hugged herself for a second and I just kept standing there with one hand almost on her arm like the useless lesbian I am. "Okay." She moved away and smashed the elevator call button. "Let's go. You still have the baggie? From Larry?"
"Yeah, I do."
The elevator opened. "Good." She led the way, as she had been since the moment I stepped in this building, and I followed. We were silent the whole way down. The grating of the rusty elevator doors on their tracks filled the emptiness and she was squeezing through them before they were fully open. "Come on Sally, please, I just want this to be done."
Again, I followed her. She stood by the door, her hand on the knob, taking deep breaths. This time I did touch her. My fingers wrapped around her arm entirely. Huh. Maybe I do have big hands. "(Y/N), you don't have to do it. I can do this, okay?"
She didn't answer me for a moment and I wondered if she was checking to see if anything told her I couldn't.
"I'm not."
I jumped a bit. "What?"
"I'm not checking behind you, Sally. You're not a little boy. I don't need to use my powers like that, I just..." She stepped back and rubbed the back of her neck. "I guess I feel like it should be me? Because I know him? I don't know. I just feel bad, Sally Face."
"It's okay, it's okay..." Keeping a very careful grip on the teacup, I moved to rub her back instead of trying to hold on to her. "You don't have to be perfect, (Y/N)... You can't see everything."
My repeat of Larry's words made her slump, maybe in defeat, maybe in something else, and she nodded. "Okay. Okay, you do it, I'll just..."
"Go to Larry." I spoke on instinct, hoping that my small amount of knowledge on this girl was showing me what I thought it was. "I'll be fine. Just go. Tell him I'll use the walkie when I get the pony."
