KONGPOB
I can see the surprise on the band's faces as they register my ultimatum. Wad is frozen in shock beside me, having not expected that I would throw down the gauntlet like this, but I mean my words and I know that Prae would back me up on this. It's no use wasting our time and putting ourselves in danger if they couldn't even listen to simple instructions meant to keep them safe.
"NO!" yells Arthit suddenly.
The drummer has taken a step closer to me, head firmly shaking in the negative and chest rising rapidly. There's a wild look in his eyes and for a second I'm wondering if I'm about to get hit with a punch or a kiss.
I never do find out which way it would have gone because P'Jane chooses that moment to step forward, placing a hand on the drummer's shoulder which seems to bring him back to himself. Arthit is red in the face and I can't tell if it's lingering anger, or embarrassment over his outburst. I watch as he turns away and disappears upstairs before P'Jane speaks, regaining my attention.
"There's no need for that N'Kongpob. This won't happen again, I promise. We appreciate all that your team is doing for us."
P'Jane offers his hand for me to shake which I do as a gesture of good faith.
"Now, why don't you two take the rest of the day off? There's nothing on the schedule till tomorrow night and I think it's best the guys stay here to let everyone cool off till then."
I'm hesitant to leave, especially as I'm curious to what was going on with Arthit before, but I have no choice per our client's wish so I simply nod. Wad follows closely at my heels to where our company SUV is parked in the driveway and we are soon on our way back to the office. Prae will need to be updated on what has happened so she's not blindsided later if P'Jane changes his mind or a report shows up with me physically dragging Prem to the vehicle.
"Wad-"
"I know what you're gonna say."
"Do you?"
"Yes and I'm sorry. I let my emotions cloud my judgement back there and I fucked up."
I nod, leaving it at that, as there is no need for me to scold Wad for his error in judgement. I know that he will do that enough himself without me compounding it.
The rest of my evening consists of paperwork on the incident for legal reasons then a two hour workout session with Wad to release the tension from today, as both he and I need to have our heads back in the game in preparation for tomorrow night's event. He's been teaching me several Muay Thai moves to add to my repertoire of fight techniques and it's a good way to work off the edge.
When tomorrow finally comes around, I am feeling re-energized and focused with my temper back in check. I meet Wad, Em and Prae at the nightclub where the event will be held later tonight to get a lay of the land so to speak. We meet with the owner and their security team whom give us access to their building's blueprints and video feeds. It may seem excessive but knowing the people on site and making those connections ahead of time can help in a pinch if a situation arises.
We make a quick stop back at the office to change out of our street clothes and into black suits, which includes Prae as this is a large event that will require all four of us to be present. One of us will each be assigned to a specific member of the band and are to stick close to their side for the entirety of the night. I find out that I've been assigned to Arthit and while I'm secretly pleased by this, I can't help the niggle of worry that causes me to speak up.
"Err, Prae. Maybe it would be better if I'm assigned to Knot or Bright."
She smirks at me, "Too bad for you but you were requested specifically for the drummer. So keep your lust in check Kong."
