'Sometimes, you gotta pretend everything is okay...'

Betty Cooper. Some might say she's the perfect girl next door. Others might say she's a sweetheart. Maybe they'd say she's a genius. Perhaps they viewed her as a Queen Bee.
She wouldn't ever know what they really thought of her, not unless she asked. She only knew what she thought about herself, and she didn't like it.
However, Betty Cooper did live the perfect life, in the sense that every single day was the same, without a single doubt or tweak. She would wake up at 5.30. 5.35 have a shower. 5.45 get dressed. 6.00 do her makeup. 6.30 do her hair. 6.45 make breakfast for the family. 7.00 eat her own food. 7.29 check the mirror. 7.30 leave the house for school.
It was the same thing every day, and it droned on and on to the point where she felt insane, and was dressed in someone else's skin rather than her own.
...
Betty smoothed our her ponytail and turned towards the mirror, which hung on the corridor wall. Other people would have seen the epitome of perfection, with Betty's collared shirt, cheerleading bag and strategically organised notebooks. Betty Cooper, on the other hand, saw a hopeless, empty girl with haunting eyes, whose spirit was begging to be set free. All she saw in herself was a fake, a false, an illusion of ideals.
...
There was more than one reason as to why Betty always took the long route to school, the one which deviated away from the Andrews household. It wasn't so she could avoid her long-term or crush, who didn't reciprocate her feelings or for the peppy princess to escape the Riverdale High drama. It was rather for her to wander across the southside serpent territory and silenty observe, for Betty Cooper had always envied them. She longed to have the same freedom and to be wild beyond measure, without anybody else's judgement.
She was jealous of the girls who could dye their hair pink and dress in leather , the boys who could play with pocket knives and get tattoos. It was something she could only fantasise of.
...
Betty Cooper could easily say her day was off to a bad start, with her miserable mood and seemingly short temper, however it got a thousand more terrible when the only person who could make her day any worse sat next to her.
Jughead Jones.
