### Author's Note
When I first began writing this book, I didn't realize just how much of myself would find its way into Carla's story. Though this isn't a memoir, many of the emotions and experiences Carla faces—loneliness in a foreign place, the search for connection, the challenge of stepping into a world that feels unfamiliar—are rooted in things I've encountered in my own life.
The idea for this novel came from my fascination with the way we form relationships in unexpected places, how small decisions—like moving to a new country, taking a summer job—can ripple out and change us in ways we never expected. I wanted to explore that feeling of being in-between worlds, of discovering not only a new culture but also deeper parts of oneself.
Like Carla, I believe that sometimes, life takes us on paths we didn't plan for, and it's often through those unexpected detours that we find what we've been looking for all along.
Through this book, I hope to share a story about connection, growth, and the power of human relationships, even when they're formed under the most surprising circumstances.
