Owen liked to sleep in on Saturdays, everyday really, but especially Saturdays. Usually, it was the result of staying up all night at some party or with some girl, but that Saturday, he hadn't gone out the night before at all.
He laid in his new bed, mind solely focused on Ally and his brother. He had bought himself a new bed with some money he had saved up the day after that party he threw, and was still regretting. He ran a hand over his face as he stared up at his ceiling and listened to his mother vacuum the hallway outside his bedroom, likely attempting to get him up.
He groaned in frustration, he just wanted to stop thinking about it. Unable to stay in bed any l0nger, he tossed his covers off and swung his feet off his bed as he sat up. He glared at his bedroom door in annoyance. He was just about to stand when his cell phone buzzed on his nightstand twice, a text.
He grabbed his phone and frowned when he saw Ally's name. It had been about a week since they had last spoken to one another.
I'm really sorry.
Right after he had finished reading the text the doorbell rang and the vacuuming noise stopped. He texted her back a question mark before standing and tossing his phone on his bed. He rubbed his bare shoulders before he popped his bones. He had just turned towards his bathroom when the yelling started.
He stopped and listened, he frowned when he heard the angry male voice. His step dad never raised his voice. He quickly made his way out of his room, throwing his door open and stepping out into the hall at the same time as Ian. The two brothers shared a look of confusion before they both heading downstairs to see what was going on.
"You're telling me to calm down when your son knocked up my daughter?" The angry man, Owen recognized as Ally's father jus inside their door, one hand wrapped firmly around a crying Ally's arm. "How am I suppose to be calm when her life is ruined? She's ruined!"
"I'm just staying, sir. I don't know what it is you're even talking about." Their mother said calmly, but sharply. "If you would stopping yelling then maybe I could understand you better and understand why you're in my house yelling at me!"
Devin Jones pointed, "That one, that bastard of yours got my daughter pregnant!"
Owen was surprised to find the finger and angry glare pointed at him. What? His eyes found Ally's and he knew, he just knew. He could feel his brother's eyes on him.
"What is he talking about, Owen?" Ian's voice seemed so loud for some reason.
Instead of looking at his brother, his eyes found his mother, who looked tired but not surprised. As if she was just waiting on the day he would knock some girl up and their angry father would come knocking on her door. He almost scoffed.
"I told her," Devin continued to spit out angry words, "I told her all she had to do was go to school and get good grades. I told her to stop hanging out with those whorish little girls she hangs out with because I knew if she didn't this was going to happen!" The man looked disgusted. Ally sobbed. "She's like her mother, you give her everything and she just turns around and shits on you. Well, I'm tired," eh pushed Ally forward as he let of of her arm. He pointed at Owen, "its your mess now, you clean it up."
The man sneered at them all before he turned and stormed out of the house, slamming the door behind him. Owen found himself looking at the shaking, clearly upset Ally before his well known temper ignited and he chased after the man that had just abandoned his daughter.
"Owen!" he heard his mother shout right before he exited his home.
The man was almost to his car when Owen caught up to him, still in just his sweat pants and no shoes. Hair wild. "What in the hell is your problem, man? You're just going to leave her, like that, huh?" He growled. "She's your fucking daughter!"
Devin didn't even turn around and just got into his car. "She's your problem now, kid, she's no daughter of mine!" He shouted right before he started his car. Owen kicked the front end of the man's car and flipped him off.
"She'll be better off without someone like you, anyway!" He shouted as the man backed out of their driveway and sped away. "Motherfucker!" Owen cursed and tugged a hand through his hair.
Ian came storming out of the house a second later, jumped in his car and without saying a word to Owen, sped off. Owen watched with dread before he sighed loudly. After another minute of just standing in the driveway, he made his way back into the house.
His mother and Ally were still right inside the door. His mother was holding onto Ally's arms as the girl seemed to have some sort of panic attack.
"Breathe," his mother couched her, "just take a breath with me now, sweetie," she told her softly.
His heart clenched. He softly closed the front door behind him, which caught his mother's attention. "Owen," she nodded towards Ally as she began to rub the girl's back. "Can you go get Ally a glass of water?"
Owen did as told, quickly moving into the kitchen filing a glass with water. He found the two had moved into the living room. He handed the glass to Ally and watched as she took little sips, not meeting his gaze.
"Did you know about this, Owen?" His mother asked taking her eyes off Ally.
Owen glanced towards Ally before looking at his mother. He nodded, "I knew." He knew everything.
The woman sighed. "You do know you're going to have to straighten up and take responsibility now, right, Owen? Grow up?"
Out of the corner of his eye he could see Ally begin to shake again. He could understand why. He waited for a moment, not answering his mother, hoping ally would say something. She didn't.
"Mom, don't tell me stuff I already know," he finally said.
"I don't think you do know, Owen." His mother said sternly. "What happened between Ally and her father is partly your fault" She stood, looking pensive. "I'm going to call your father and see where Ian went." She rubbed her eyes. "I mean this in the most sensitive way I can, but what the two of you did to Ian was wrong. Your brother's girlfriend, really Owen?" She shook her head. "We'll figure this out." She said the last part to herself but they heard her. "You two talk this out."
When she left the room, Owen whirled around on Ally. "What in the hell?"
She curled in on herself, hands going to cover her face. "I-I don't know," she whimpered. "I'm sorry."
"You're sorry?" He yelled. "This is so wrong. What in the hell were you thinking?"
"Stop yelling at me," Ally snapped weakly, "please." She combed her hand through her thick hair. "I'll straighten this out. I will. He just kept asking me who the father was and I couldn't tell him, but he kept asking and asking and finally I just blurted your name out." She explained.
Owen sat heavily on the couch next to her. "How are you going to fix this? Are you going to tell Ian what he did?"
Ally wedged her hands between her legs and pressed her lips together, she shook her head. "Owen, I can't do that."
He leaned back into the couch and watched her avoid looking at him. "What are you afraid of?" He asked. "Look, I don't want my brother going to jail for rape despite me pressuring you to come clean." He whispered. "I don't want that at all. Fuck! I wish I hadn't thrown that fucking party!" He sighed, rubbing his face above his eyebrows. "This isn't the answer, fingering me as your baby's father? No. This is shitty."
"Just go along with it for now, Owen." She licked her lips. "I'll straighten this out but I have to think, I can't think straight right now."
Owen could only shake his head.
