Considering they never really hung out much before, it was quite easy for Owen to go a long period of time without having any direct contact with Ally. He saw her in the halls in school and around his house a couple of times before she and Ian broke up not even a week later. Ian was sad and confused, said she broke up with him without any real reason. Owen had merely listened to him and never commented.
But in January, after winter break, they were put into new classes, one of them he had with Ally. It was a stupid Literature class he should have taken when he was a junior but was now stuck in as a senior. They didn't talk to one another, he would even say Ally went as far as to not even look at him.
He didn't mind, the guilt was too much when she was around, he could only imagine if she looked at him with those sad eyes of hers. She was different, her loud, pain in the ass friend, Suzy, talked about it enough for everyone on the planet to know. Apparently, she wasn't as fun, according to blondie. He just noticed she was quieter, didn't really participate in school stuff like she normally would.
Owen was simply counting down the days until he was out of high school and away from it all. But one morning, right in the middle of their Literature class, Ally stood from her seat and rushed out of the classroom. It startled everyone so bad that no one did anything for several seconds before the teacher went after her. The teacher came back a few minutes later and simply said Ally was sick and went back to teaching the class.
Owen was in the middle of second period when he got the text message from the number not saved in his phone.
– Meet me in my car. Ally.
He hadn't even known Ally had his number, but it wasn't that hard to get. He had contemplated ignoring the text, she had gone months without even looking at him. But he found himself striding out to the parking lot after second period anyway and walking over to Ally's small, used car. He got into the passenger seat.
She sniffed loudly and wiped her nose with a tissue, she bit her lip and stared straight forward. He waited with more patience than he normally would have.
"I need your help," she finally said. A moment went by before she finally looked at him, her eyes were red.
"You need my help?" Owen echoed. "Why?" He forced himself to ask.
"I think I'm pregnant," she said bluntly.
Owen stared at her, really stared at her. Looking for a hint of any sort of joke or that he had heard her wrong. "Excuse me?" He questioned. He couldn't have heard right. She could not be implying what he believed she was.
"I want to take a test." She said quietly, looking down at her hands. "I don't want to do it alone." She admitted in one breath. "You're the only person who knows about that night," she twisted her fingers together.
Owen ran a hand over his face. He felt sick. "When do you want to do this?" He asked.
"Now," she looked at him again. He noted she looked pale and as sick as he felt.
He nodded. "Okay," he agreed.

Owen was about two years older than Ian, it wasn't a big age gap, but Ian had always been his little brother. Ian was kind, in Owen's mind easier to break, so he always looked out for him. Where Ian was soft, Owen had to be hard. Their only disagreement, was over a girl who they both claimed to be in love with. It nearly broke a bond that had been around since the moment his mother pointed to her stomach and told him about his baby brother or sister. It didn't break it though, just chipped it.
