Two years ago
"Miss, Queen Annastasia asked for your presence in the library immediately." The guard who's also my personal sentinel said just after I opened my bedroom door.
"Stop being formal, Derren. You've known me since forever!" I waved my hands and chuckled.
He smiled and turned to leave. "Well, hurry up! The Queen is waiting!" He said and walked away, motioning me to follow.
"Wait! I need to grab something first." I walked back into my room, searching for the thing and picked it up as soon as I saw it.
I ran to catch up with Derren and walked side by side with him.
"Do you mind to give this to the postman?" I held the thing, that actually a letter that I picked up from my room earlier and handed it to Derren.
"Let me guess. For Nicolas again, right?"
I blushed but grinned. "Well, haven't seen him for a year now. I miss him everyday" I told him.
Finally, we reached the library and Derren opened the door for me. I smiled and thanked him before coming in.
"I'll leave you there. The Queen is waiting by the royal section." He informed and I nodded. Before closing the door, he smiled widely at me. "Happy Birthday, Arine."
I giggled and waved goodbye. "Don't forget the letter!"
I approached The Queen that was sitting in front of the royal's long table. They usually use it for a private meeting and I never pass or even come near this section my whole life. If The Queen asked me to go there, there must be something very important that she wanted me to hear, or even talk. That thought made me nervous.
"Arine! Finally, sit down, honey." She motioned me to sit on the other side of her and I smiled.
"What are we discussing, Ann?" I asked her as I placed my hands on the table, crossed it formally.
There're nearly no formalities between me and her. So, calling her by her name was like my everyday thing. But, the fact that she wanted to talk in the royal's private discussion section made me uneasy. She usually just asked me to come to her room or office or just casually walk into my room when she wants to talk to me.
She's my godmother. That's why.
She grinned and said, "How are you?"
"Well, I had a great breakfast as usual, but well, we shared that, so you know how great I am, right?" I had some suspicious feeling about this meeting. "Actually, I forgot to ask you earlier. Have you heard from Nick? He wasn't replying to my letters."
"I haven't heard from him since the last letter you told me. Apparently, he's more willing in mailing you a letter than to his own mother." I gave her a small giggle before she continued,
"Now, Arine, I want you to be honest with me." She finished and I nearly had a panic attack.
Did I do wrong? Was something bad happened and she thought it was my doing? Or mayb....
"Oh, honey. Please stop thinking nonsense. I know you as much as I know my boys. You never lied. I just want to hear it from you, even though I already know the answer." She grinned while opening a file and then back again to stare into my eyes.
"I'm not thinking nonsense!" I argued, but she just gave a small laugh.
She intertwined her fingers together and put them below her chin while still staring through my eyes, smiling elegantly. Her face looked like she's trying to get my further expression. "The question is, do you like Nick?" She finally asked.
"Of course I like him. He's like a brother I never had." I answered quickly because that's the truth. Actually, that was just half of the truth. No, it's not even the truth. Brother? pffft nope.
"Oh, no no no, not that." She waved her point finger no.
She stared at me intensely and then smiled again. Why was she smiling so much today? I started feeling suspicious about this discussion.
"I mean, do you love him? Like romantically love him?" She stared deep to my eyes.
My heart sank and panic erupted from the pit of my stomach. My body turned so hot now!
Why would she ask that?
How did she now?....
....And what will happen if I told her the truth?
