Rumaisa sat across from Mutassim, waiting for an explanation.
Salam and Salma had just arrived in Kaduna with him, and while they went upstairs, Rumaisa decided to speak to her brother.
"How are Madina and the children?" she asked.
"Rumaisa, what is it? You clearly have something you want to ask me."
"Hamida slipped to Fuad that I was the one who asked Baba to get us married, so how the hell did she know?"
Mutassim frowned.
"What's that supposed to mean? Don't use that kind of language with me."
She immediately fell quiet.
"And yes, I told her."
"Why? How?"
"Not that I need to explain myself to you, but she and I were dating, and I told her everything."
"You two were dating?"
She stared at him.
"You're joking, right?"
"No, I'm not. And I have no idea why she told you, but it doesn't matter anymore."
Salam walked into the room.
"Okay, let's go," Mutassim told him.
"Why can't you just stay here?" Rumaisa asked Salam.
"Because it's weird for a grown man like me to stay at my sister's house, okay?"
"Alright, then."
He turned to leave.
"At least Salma is with you."
The two men walked out.

Salma had just gone upstairs.
Rumaisa and Fuad were sitting together watching television when she finally decided to tell him.
"I talked to Mutassim."
**"Okay."
His tone was completely uninterested.
"Because he was the only person who knew."
He said nothing.
"I know I shouldn't bring this up, but I had to find out how Hamida knew."
"And you got your answer?"
"Yes, I did."
"Good for you. I hope it changed something."
He sounded completely uninterested.
"Don't you want to know?"
He remained silent.
"You don't?"
"Do I have to know?"
"So you don't?"
Tired of going back and forth, Fuad finally turned toward her.
"Just say it."
Rumaisa stared at him for a moment, still irritated.
"Did you know he was dating Hamida?"
He looked at her, slightly surprised.
"Makes sense."
He shrugged.
"Why aren't you surprised? She was cheating on you for years."
"I knew she was dating someone. I just didn't know who."
