"Is it too much to ask for you to stay tonight?" 

Sam stopped peeling the apple and looked at Top.

She slowly shook her head, smiling.

"I'll stay." She said.

"Thank you..." Top breathed.

Sam opened the door.

He was there.
 
He looked at her and smiled.
 
A tear fell.
 
Sam was so relieved. He was okay.
 
Sam made her way to his bed.
 
Top frowned as he saw her.
 
"You've been crying." He said. "I'm sorry."
 
She shook her head.
 
"I'm okay." He continued saying, smiling at her reassuringly.
 
Sam felt a twinge. Why was Top the one doing the comforting?
 
She shook her head more vigoroudsly and this time smiled brightly at him.
 
"That's good to heat..." She said.
 
"Yeah." He nodded.
 
The door opened once again and in entered Ali.
 
He walked very slowly, his face somber.
 
Top looked at him. "What is it?"
 
"Well, the doctor said you need to stay in the hospital." It was Stephen who answered.
 
"Oh..." Top said, frowning.
 
Top turned back to Ali.
 
He still had that fierce but sad look.
 
"Top... it might be difficult from now on..." He said.
 
Top nodded. "What did the doctor said?"
 
"Well, I understand what he said but it's rather difficult to explain it." Ali said, laughing a bit. "He said he'll be back in a bit to explain it to you."
 
Top smiled at the attempted humor and nodded.
 
Ali turned to Sam. "Sam, can you stay for a bit as well?" He asked.
 
"I'll stay." She said.

Just then, the door opened.
 
"Top!"
 
"We only just heard-"
 
"Kelly, Otap..." Top said, grinning.

His hand moved, searching blindly. Sam seized his hand.
 
Blank black eyes stared right at her, unseeing.

He smiled.

"Sam."

"I'm here."

"I wish I could see you." He said, tightening his grip on her hand.

Sam wanted to cry.

'Recurrent eye cancer...' Lee sighed as he looked at the scene in front of him.

Sam was preparing the cake they had brought for Top and Top was watching her silently, smiling all the while.

It was really unfair.

Sam... he could tell she really loved him. And it was the same for Top. They love each other dearly.
 
'The survival rate of recurrent stage of eye cancer is very low.' That was what he had read. It was said that this is because the malignant tumor is possibly immune to the treatment the patient had already undergone.
 
He numbly took the piece of cake Sam had cut for him and watched as she gave Top's share as well.
 
Truly, the scene in front of him was very beautiful, yet it was very tragic as well.
 
Sam had lost her parents, just a few months ago she had lost Jared. And now this... It was just too cruel.
 
"Delicious!" Top said like a kid.
 
Sam smiled very brightly.
 
'But Top's case is unique.' This thought had been stuck in Lee's head. 'Top had undergone eye transplant, but they hadn't detected tumors then, so it's possible that in that time, they were still inactive. They were removed with  Top's left eye. He didn't receive any treatment for cancer. So maybe...'
 
Lee was no doctor, so he knew he shouldn't trust his assumptions very much. But he couldn't help but hope. Hope for his cousin's happiness.
 
There was clanking noise and Lee was snapped out of his musings.
 
"Top?" Sam asked in alarm. Too had dropped his fork.
 
"Sam.... Sam... why is it getting dark?"
 
Sam's eyes widen and turned to Lee, silently asking for help.
 
Lee stood up and pushed the call button.
 
"Sam..."
 
"Top, I'm here..."
 
"It's so dark."
 
"It's not, Top, it's still day..." Sam said weakly,  fear and worry in her voice.
 
"Sam... I can't see you..."
