"Clara, are you almost ready?" I hear my mom yell from downstairs. "Yeah Mom," I yell back. I quickly apply some mascara, brush my teeth, pack my toiletries, slip on my shoes, and grab my bag before running downstairs. I was beyond estatic for our vacation. My family and I were spending a week in New York so I can audition for the Rockette summer intensive and also to celebrate my 16th birthday.

After about an hour we get to the airport and I am reminded how crazy Texas weather can be. Yesterday it was in the mid-70's and now it is 24 degrees out. The cold December air never seems to stop blowing until we finally get inside of the airport. I am also quickly reminded how busy DFW can get a week and a half before Christmas. The lines are backed up for what seems like miles and I was really glad we got here really early.

"So Jonah, how do you feel about New York being your new home soon?" I ask my brother, because in the fall he will be a freshman at NYU. "Honestly I don't want to leave you, little sis," he says as I chuckle. We chat for another 45 minutes before we finally get to our gate and start boarding the plane. During the whole ride I pass my time by reading, doing homework, and watching the office on netflix.

As we step off of the plane I couldn't be more excited! I finally get to be in New York. I then realize that auditions started in 3 hours so we hurry to get our luggage, get a taxi, and check into our hotel. Our hotel was just across the street from the Richard Rogers theatre, so I was estatic to say the least. I realize after we gwt to our room I have 45 minutes til auditions so I throw my hair in a bun, put on my dance clothes, grab my bag, and call an uber.

When I get to Radio City Music hall I was freaking out. This was my dream and all I have ever wanted to be was a Rockette. I quickly head inside and check in. They hand me a number and tell me where to go to put my bag. When I walk into the dressing room you could feel the tension in the air. Everyone here wanted the spot just as much as I did and we all knew that some of us won't get in.

3 hours later I come out of the audition dripping with sweat. I have never felt better about myself than I do right now. I quickly grab my stuff and head out of the door anxious to see if I got in. We will know the results in 1-14 days and I honestly can not wait. Right as I am about to call an uber I see a hospital number call my phone. "Hello?" I say while answering. "Hellow, is this Clara Jade Larson?" The voice asks. "Yes," I say feeling nervous. "I'm sorry Ms.Larson your parents and brother were in a serious car accident and have died. They are at Rosevelt hospital if you would like to see them before we take away their life support," the voice says. I hear the phone disconnect while I stand there in shock. Nothing feels real until I finally black out.
