◈A D R I A N◈

We both sat on the couch looking straight at the TV screen, unsure of who should start first.

"After you," Logan offered generously.

A list of questions automatically whizzed through my mind. His favourite food? What kind of music genre he liked?

You sound like a lovesick twelve-year-old, my inner self sneered.

I ignored that annoying voice and continued pondering over the options. The possibilities were endless. I needed to choose wisely. To strategize.

Logan cleared his throat, subtly urging me to hurry up. I knew I was taking too much time.

"Tell me about your ex-wife," I blurted out.

Logan turned his head to look at me, his brows raised in surprise. "That's not how this work, kid. You need to narrow down your scope or I'll end up spilling all my secrets," he grinned.

I flushed in embarrassment. I guessed I was too greedy.

"Why did you guys break up?" I asked slowly.

It took a moment for Logan to answer that I was starting to doubt my question. Was that too personal?

"We didn't break up, we divorced," he snickered at my childish words. "She had a miscarriage," he added wryly.

I remained silent, waiting for him to continue but he stayed quiet. The sound of the downpour filled the silence.

So he really had a kid. I felt a slight relief when I heard she miscarried.

Does that make me a terrible person? Feeling relieved over a dead foetus?

My stomach churned at the thought. I was getting more and more fucked-up.

"So you left her because she lost your child?"

Logan whipped his head towards me as if I just accused him for murder. His eyes were grim as he gritted out, "No. Kara was the one who suggested it."

I flinched a little at his hard tone. He took a deep breath and said, "That's two questions in a row. Play by the rules, will ya? You keep breaking them."

I nodded slightly, trying my best to appease him.

"Guess it's my turn then. Are you thinking about courting Kara?"

"Wh-what?" I sputtered. I couldn't believe my ears. Did he really think I asked those questions because I've got the hots for his ex-wife?

"You kept asking about her," he shrugged slightly as he slid lower and stretched his arms over his head. "I'm warning you, don't even think about it. She's out of your league."

My jaw dropped at the statement. What did that supposed to mean?

"I wasn't thinking about going after her! She's not even my type," I defended myself.

Logan was still staring at me, suspicion was visible in his eyes.

"Besides, I have a girlfriend," I lied through my teeth, looking as earnest as I could to convince him.
