◈A D R I A N◈

My body went lax with relief. Like a salve, his acceptance for my apologies seemed to soothe my pain and worries better than any prescribed analgesic as the clenching around my ribs slowly ebbed away.

However, there were thousands of questions I was dying to ask. What happened after I fainted? Did Logan said anything suggestive to the cops? Curiosity was eating through me but the man deserved to enjoy his doughnut without worries.

At least for now.

The metal legs of the chair scraped against the concrete floor when he pushed behind to reach for a small fridge at the corner of his office. His long arm reached over and pulled at the door, grabbing a cold beer before shutting it close.

The tab open with a satisfying fizzing sound of bubbling liquid in the can. Tipping his head back, he took a long swig of the drink and sighed when the liquid hit his stomach, looking utterly contented.

Seeing how he looked visibly relaxed, I took the chance to get some answers.

"I've been thinking for quite some time now," I started, pausing for a while before asking that one question I've been dying to know. "What happened after I passed out that day? Did...did you see him?"

Logan's questing fingers stopped halfway to his second doughnut. Grunting, he cleared his throat to get rid of the stickiness of the dessert before fixing his green eyes on me.

"Him?" he asked.

"Damon," I replied in hushed whisper instinctively, afraid that the demon would materialize in front of me if I said his name any louder.

"No. There wasn't anyone else besides you. Even if there was someone, he must have stayed in the shadows. I doubt he's a fool to step out and admit his crime," Logan answered bluntly, his fingers closing in the remaining distance and grabbed a pink glazed doughnut with stuffed strawberry jelly.

"Right," I nodded my head slowly, his words making perfect sense and I kicked myself for asking a dumb question.

One down, two more to go.

"Did the police-"

"Hey, boss. Well, Bones...he uh...he hung up on me," Mike said with a sheepish grin after flinging the wooden door open and stepped into the room unannounced.

Why did he have to barge in now?!

I was so close to finding relief from the nagging agitation only to be denied by this uncouth guy, I could almost pull my hair off my scalp!

Fuming, I glared at his back and hoped the intensity of my gaze could stab him like darts.

Logan's expression turned sour and he cursed under his breath, "Did he say anything?"

Mike shook his head, "Nope. I asked him if he could come and check on the compressor. He just grunted and hung up on me."

"He'll be here soon enough," Logan replied. His voice carried a humorous undertone.

Confusion was written all over Mike's face. "But he didn't say anything,"

"He grunted so it means he'll come. If he doesn't want to come, he wouldn't even waste his breath on you," Logan replied nonchalantly.
