Chapter 30
“The bodies of three more prominent anti-vampire campaigners and a leading politician have been discovered at an inner-city hotel late last night, all found with the same fang marks on their necks and drained completely of blood,” the news anchor read out solemnly, putting on his most serious face. “This is the latest in a long line of vampire attacks and is believed to be the work of one individual, who is still on the run from police. In related news, politician Marcus Taylor has escaped injury after his home was broken into in the early hours of this morning. Police have reported that security around Mr Taylor spotted an intruder inside the prospective Prime Ministers home but scared them away before they could reach Mr Taylor himself...”
Rome sighed and turned off the television. There was nothing on but reports of vampire attacks or strange disappearances and she was really sick of the media blaming Ly for it. Knowing the young vampire, he probably wouldn't care what the news was saying about him, his goal was who was really behind all this. It was absolutely impossible for Ly to have anything to do with these murders and Rome knew, or a least hoped, he would never do anything like that.
“I'm glad to see you're not watching that filth,” Clayton said and he entered the living room and took a seat on the lounge next to his daughter. “It seems like the whole worlds gone a little bit insane at the moment.”
“Just a little bit,” Rome said sarcastically, but she couldn't help the touch of nervousness that entered her voice. “Dad, do you think there's going to be another war? The way things are going...well I understand why the vampires are getting rid of those people, but can't they see that they're only turning the public against them?”
“I don't think it's that simple,” Clayton replied with a heavy sigh. “Ly's right about one thing at least, there's something going on here and I don't think this is going to stop until everything is out in the open. We'll just have to wait it out.”
“Maybe Ly can do something about it,” Rome said, hoping that a vampire who hated humans would be willing to stop an impending vampire human war. “He is the head of the vampire government.”
“The government of one country, if this gets any bigger we might se other countries joining in. Besides do you think he'll want to stop it once our government brings in hunters to deal with his kind? At the rate things are going now they almost certainly will,” Clayton said, shaking his head. “No, I think we're in big trouble here and as much as I don't like it, I think there will be another war.”
“I don't know,” Rome put in, thinking about Tristan. Rome knew that Ly's older brother had worked hard towards peace between the two races. “Ly was really close to Tristan and I think he would stop this just because his brother would have wanted him to. Or at least I hope he would.”
“I hope so to,” Clayton said. Sighing heavily, he stood up. “We'll I'm off to see your brother in the hospital. He should be out today, hopefully, but you know how your mother is. She'll probably insist on him staying there a few more days. Tell Alex where I've gone when he gets back.”
Rome only nodded, hardly noticing her father leave the room. Their conversation had, once again, made her aware of how much she didn't know about Ly. What would he do once he found out who was behind Matthew Scott's death and cleared his name? Would he encourage the war or would he try to stop it? It worried her that she didn't know enough about him to answer that question.
Suddenly she couldn't wait for answers. Getting up she walked quickly from the living room to the door of the guest room, knocked quietly and went inside. The room was dark and quite and Rome could only just make out Ly's outline on the bed.
