The Buru is an aquatic reptile said to have lived in the Ziro valley, a small town in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, India.

In 1947, Professor Christopher von Furer-Haimendorf was the first westerner to be told about the Buru. By that time, the creature was said to have been extinct in the valley.

According to the Apatani elders, when their forefathers migrated to the valley, the valley was mainly marsh and was populated by the Burus. The Apatani people settled in the valley and would have occasional run-ins with the creature. Most of the creatures died because of drainage, while others were reported to go underground into the springs.

The last Buru was reported when a young woman was drawing water from a spring when the creature appeared to her. The young woman told her father and the village filled the spring with clay and stones.
