In England, November 1953 on the shores of Canvey Island a strange carcass washed up then a second more intact carcass washed up in August of 1954.

The first carcass was about 2.4 ft long with thick reddish brown skin, gills and large eyes. Its hind legs were described to be five toed horseshoe shaped feet with concave arches, but no forelimbs. After the carcass was inspected it was cremated with a note from zoologists who claimed that there was no threat to the public.

The second carcass was described as the same, but larger, about 3.9 ft and weighed about 25 lbs. The eyes, teeth and nostrils were studied as they were more preserved than the first carcass had been. Though it was studied, no explanation of what it was or what had happened to it had been discovered.

Some scientists and zoologists believed that it could be some type of angelfish or it may have been some kind of frogfish which can walk on leg like fins, has eyes that match the description found on the first carcass and can take on a wide range of colors, including the reddish brown skin of the carcasses.

No official report had been sighted during 1953-1954.
