It isn't every day that you get to tell your parents you've won a hundred dollars in a talent show contest that you entered that morning. I'm pretty sure when I told them that I ended up entering on they had pale expressions on their faces like they just seen a ghost or something. All in all I was proud of myself for doing this, even though my parents didn't seem to thrilled when I mentioned going out to L.A. to record with Sam.
It took over twenty minutes to convince my parents to let me go out to California, which I was happy they even allowed. I told them that I plan on taking Shay out with me if it was alright with her parents and they reluctantly said yes.
I lay on my stomach on my bed, flipping the card over and over trying to figure out if I should call the man or if I should call Sam first to see what he's doing. There's a light snoring noise heard from Shay as she is passed out on the mattress I drug into my room after I convinced my parents to let me go. Signing I shoot Sam a text message to see what he thought of this whole situation. I wait a few minutes not expecting him to reply because how early it was, seven in the morning is early for a teenager. Moments later my phone starts vibrating, indicating that someone was calling me.
Quietly I tip-toe out of my room, not wanting to wake up Shay because it is scary when you wake her up from her slumber. I answer my phone half way to the living room where I spot my mother standing in the halfway with her eyes closed and arms crossed over her chest.
"Hello? This is Savannah speaking," I say not looking at the name.
The guy laughs, "Do you always answer the phone this way?"
"Oh sorry Sam," I mumble into the phone. "I guess it would help if I start looking who is calling before picking up. So why are you calling instead of texting me?"
He coughs, "Calling to talk about this type of situation is so much easier than trying to type it out. So what did your parents say about this whole recording deal thing?"
"I was told I could go on it as long as I take Shay everywhere I go. My parents don't want me separated from her at all if I go on this trip with you and whoever else you are taking with you," I counter stepping out into my backyard.
There's a slight pause, "I could understand why your parents would feel that way. I mean, they don't even know me so it would be basically like running off to meet a stranger. A lot of people end up dying that way you know?"
"Yes Sam," I giggle into the phone. "I know that many people end up six feet under when they randomly run off with strangers to a new place not telling anyone, but it isn't like I didn't tell them. Besides that, who are you bringing with you out to California with you?"
He clicks his tongue, "I'm going to bring my friend Ethan out with me to California."
"Ethan?" I swallow, my throat going dry. "What is his last name?"
"His name is Ethan Jackson, you wouldn't know him. He is home schooled so he wouldn't go to the public school you go to just like I don't attend. I think Shay and you will both like him, he's a nice person and wouldn't harm a fly. He would tell you that he would, but in all honesty he wouldn't."
"So did your parents say you could all the way out there to sing with me?"
"They told me I could go out there if I took Ethan along with me that I could go with you to California. My dad just told me to make sure I watch over you and whoever else you bring to California because we don't know what type of people will be out there."
