Chapter 2
Cupid looked down the volcano side and peered at the humans. The humans were always working. Cupid’s work wasn’t too hard. He welded with his father and played the love game with his mother. The tragedies of love were usually his fault. He always hoped the other humans would understand but they never learned. Helen of Troy, Shakespeare witnessing Romeo and Juliet’s tragic love; everything was always ruined because he wanted to do something his mother could never succeed at. Unrealistic love.
Throughout the years he started to lose hope for humanity’s love crisis. Men who couldn’t find love raped women and scarred them forever. Women were unfaithful and ruined marriages and vice versa.
Cupid looked over the tiny village and admired the humans. What caught his eyes was a baby girl. He adjusted his wings and made his way down to look closer at the tiny being. His eyes met hers and his heart stopped. This little girl with big blue doe eyes and little blonde curls against her forehead was his soul mate. She was the one thing he never expected. He was the decider of soul mates. No one could pick his. Not even his mother. He looked to the heavens and back down at the child. He wanted to take her, make sure she was always safe with him. He would be with her as she grew up and eventually marry her. The family will miss her though. I can’t take her away from her family. Just explain to her family and make them understand that she is mine and that if any harm comes to her, will result in catastrophic events for them.
As he was thinking about this little baby that was his mate, thunder began to rumble and the skies turned grey. The grey sky meant Zeus was calling for all of the gods and goddesses to gather in Olympus. Usually these gatherings were about fights between the gods.
The women were always uninterested and left the gathering to talk on the stairwell outside of the palace. Cupid enjoyed spying on the women. He learned how their minds worked and he was able to match humans who were more compatible. Women enjoyed big, strong, and handsome men who could care for them. Knowing that, he set up men and women who were to each other’s taste.
He wondered what his soul mate was like. Since he didn’t create her for himself, he wondered and dreamt of her. He thought he had preferred brunettes with brown eyes, but once he saw her, the preference went away and his blue eyed blonde was all he could see.
His wings beat against the clouds and he rose into Olympus along with his other family members. As he landed he wondered how his soul mate was faring in this weather. He would visit the child later, he decided.
It was simple. Kronos was trying to wake, again. This was easy. All he had to do was chant with the other god’s and put him back to sleep. This irked him. All he wanted to do was be with her. His soul mate. His intended. He needed to meet the parents of his beloved and explain everything.
Her parents understood immediately and were pleased that a god was going to love their daughter forever. “No harm will come to her. Never let her have another suitor. If she does, he won’t live for very long. Understand?”
“We understand. You are after all, a god. You can prevent the suitors. She will grow up knowing that a god is waiting for her.”
“Never tell her which god I am. I want to surprise her. Meeting her will be a joyous occasion. Until then Adelpha and Alexander
