BOOM! BOOM! I can just hear the gun shots of the Bleeding Kansas War. When will my dad be back from war? That's The question that keeps going through my head. I looks at my cheery red sneakers, and decide to go look for my dad.

My town is in pieces! Nothing will ever be the same. How far can my dad be? I don't see a single person. Feeling alone and scared,I start walking.

The next day. I go to a town I think it is called Protection, but I am not for sure I was never taught to read but I can sound thing out pretty well. A man looks at me. He must be able to tell that something is wrong. He probably sees the fear in my ice-blue eyes. I smile. He smiles back, and says good morning young lady. Where you headin? I just keep walking,I can't burn daylight. Hungry, sore, tired,I still walk. Dragging my legs,I pick up a rock, and then another. One rock is smooth and round the other is rigid and it looks like it could fall apart. Those rocks represent my life, the smooth one is before my dad had to go to war my life was almost perfect. Now that he is not here my life is crumbling down. I think about what I'm doing and I think and ask my self should I go back,or should I keep going. I decide to keep going. Never look back Laura that's what I tell my self. Suddenly a lady gives me a loaf of bread. I nodd and continue walking. Eight minutes later the loaf is gone. The sun is setting. I spot a church, then I go inside and close my eyes. The next thing I know I am fast asleep.
