Chapter 2
The next day Beth gave me a call, “Hey girl, how you doing?”
“I’m doing okay I guess,” I replied.
“So have you talked to Justin?” she asked.
“Yeah, I talked to him yesterday. Can you believe that it’s been about 2 years that I’ve been going through this with him?” I said.
“Girl I know, but hey…it’s gonna work out this time around sis,” she said.
“And Ricky came by yesterday too. He was in town auditioning for a movie. He said that he was thinking about getting back with Lydia again,” I said.
“Wow, that’s cool. Well I gotta let you go, Wade is flying in today and I’m planning something romantic,” she gushed.
“Oooh that’s fun! Talk to you later!” I said.
The rest of the day I met with some of my employees to discuss a new assignment and started working on some paperwork when I got home.
Later that night Ricky stopped by. “What’s up?” I asked when he walked in.
“I’m freakin’ out!” he replied.
“Why?”
He sighed, “Lydia is flying down tomorrow. She said that she wants to talk in person and I am so nervous. What am I gonna do?” he asked.
“Whoa, I’ve never seen you so frantic before! Okay first of all, CALM DOWN!” I instructed.
Ricky breathed in deep and exhaled.
“Good! If it makes you feel any better, I made up with Justin yesterday; he’s giving me some time right now.”
“Well that’s great! I bet he was so glad, I hope everything goes well with Lyd and I,” he said.
“You guys are going to turn out just fine. Why did she break it off anyway?” I asked.
He sat on the couch and I sat next to him. “She felt like I loved my job more than I loved her. She said that I never made time for her. But she acts as well so our schedules were so conflicting. She even cheated on me with a cast mate, but I heard that they had a nasty end last year,” Ricky replied.
“Oh wow…just make sure that she’s not using you as a rebound though Ricky. Cuz you know I got people if she try to act up!” I joked.
He laughed, “Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. You know, I hope that it all works out between you and Justin. You deserve to be happy.”
There was a knock on my door and I opened it to see a smiling Justin standing there on the porch.
“Hey you busy?” he asked.
“Just talking to a friend right now; you remember Ricky right?” I said.
He walked in and said, “Yeah, Florida. Hey man, I’m so sorry about the way that I acted the last time that you saw me.”
Ricky stood and shook his hand, “No hard feelings man, it’s all good.”
I said, “Ricky here is in the process of getting his girl back.”
Justin laughed, “Sounds kinda like me right now. Time and patience are key, trust me I know.”
Ricky grabbed his keys and said, “Well, I’ll leave you guys alone. I’ll talk to you later Dav.”
“Bye Ricky. My house is open if you’re ever in town,” I said.
After he left Justin asked, “So how are you?”
“I’m good actually. I was just helping Ricky out with the whole Lyd thing,” I replied.
“So I have something planned for us, if that’s okay with you,” Justin said hopefully.
“Yes, it’s okay with me. Tell me something though J, why did you keep fighting for me?” I asked.
He sighed, “Baby, I’ve cared about you since the first day that I met you. When we broke up I hurt so badly because what I did was so beyond stupid. As much as I tried to move on, I just couldn’t get you off my mind. When you kept rejecting me, something kept telling me that I should keep going after you. Even when you were with Kevin, I could see in your eyes that you still cared. So that’s why I wouldn’t leave you alone babe.”
I looked him in the eyes and let what he said sink in before I said, “You were right. I always cared, I was just afraid to trust you again.”
Right then there was a knock on my door. When I opened it, Wade and Beth were smiling back at me.
“Hey! What a great surprise!” I exclaimed.
“Well it’s good to see you Dav!” Wade said pulling me into a hug.
“Hey bro, I didn’t know you were in town!” Justin said.
“Aw you know I had to come see my girl. And we wanted to cheer our friend up here,” Wade replied.
“Thanks ya’ll, I’m fine,” I said.
“Girl I’m so glad that you’re okay. Mom said that she was thinking about you,” Beth said.
We all sat down in the living room and I said, “Yeah, it’s been a weird few months but, Justin and I are working it out.”
“That’s great. And we have some news as well,” Wade said. He looked over at Beth and she said, “He PROPOSED!”
“What? Aw, that’s great ya’ll!” I exclaimed
She showed off her ring and I said, “Oh that’s a super gorgeous ring!”
“Congrats guys,” Justin said patting Wade on his back.
“We are gonna go out to celebrate!” she gushed. They kissed and Wade said, “Thanks guys. If it wasn’t for Dav, I would not have met the most beautiful girl in the world.”
“Wow, this is a lot! I feel a little overwhelmed and I’m not even the one that’s engaged!”
We all laughed and they decided to leave to celebrate their engagement.
“We just wanted to let you guys know what was going on. We will see you later,” Beth said.
After we all exchanged hugs with the happy couple, they finally left.
“Hey why don’t you go get ready? I’ll wait for you down here,” Justin said.
I smiled and went upstairs to shower.
