April's POV
Bria was really excited for the newbies to join, since her gymnastics bestie left and moved to Chicago or something. The JO team doesn't hold tryouts, you pretty much get picked when you're little or you don't get picked at all. JO girls are way closer. The gym is our second home, teammates second family, coaches second parents.
Gymnastics pretty much is my life.
Bria's POV
When I got to practice on Tuesday, the first thing I did was check my mailbox. The coaches never tell us when they do level evals, because that way we always work hard, I guess. I think they just pay attention all year and that way they already know who has which skills, but they move levels at the end of the summer so that people can work upper skills and have fun stuff all summer.
Sadly, though, there is no letter announcing what level I'll compete this season.
Jordan's POV
For the first time, I pull on my leotard. It seems small sitting there but as I put it on, it stretches to fit. At least, I think it fits. It's kinda tight by the bottom, and the hole in the back is a little weird to me. It's mostly patterned in blue and purple and white, with a diagonal pink stripe. I suppose it could be worse.
When I get to the gym I put my stuff on the blue shelves in the lobby. I wish I would have worn those athletic shorts! My leotard keeps riding up a little and it's weird having no pants when I'm not in a swimming suit. At least theres a few girls who look as uncomfortable as me, maybe we'll get to know each other.
Bria's POV
I grab my bag and rush out the door, barely managing to hold on to my water bottle as I roughly jump into the car. I hate being late! When you're late to practice you have to walk out to the floor as everyone else is warming up, then tell your coach you're there because otherwise the attendance they take is inaccurate. But still, it's embarrassing to have to walk out with everyone watching you!
In a hurry, I forget to check my mailbox when I get to the gym. That means I won't find out what level I'll compete till after practice today! I really wanted to know too.. As we finish warm up and head to get a water break before our next event, I have a brilliant idea. I tell Coach Jen I'm going to use the bathroom, but instead of actually going there, I take a different direction through the lobby. To the mailboxes.
I look through it, and sure enough, a bright pink half sheet of paper awaits.
Dear Bria Sorenson,
For the following season, you will practice and compete in the Silver level! Congrats on a great summer and hope you have fun and do well this season!
Yeah! Moved up! Say goodbye to awkward backward rolls and hello to backhandsprings! Goodbye to pivots and straight jumps off, hello half turns and roundoff dismounts! Hello to high bar and vault table too!
I skip back into the main gym and to beam, where the new silvers are. Since it's the first day we talk a little about what skills we'll need and go around and say names quickly. Katie and Ella moved up with me, and I met Taylor because she's April's friend's sister and now my friend too. The new season is gonna be awesome!
