The Forbidden Couple

Prologue

After what seemed like hours of aching feet, sweltering heat, and flies in his nose, Jake finally reached the place in the forest he discovered a few days ago. A tall, long wall stood a few feet away from him. A wall made of vines, branches, and rock. A chill flew down Jake's back, and he shivered. It was as creepy as he remembered.

Two days ago, Jake and his friend were hunting in the forest, when he saw the wall. For some reason, it grabbed his attention. As if it was calling to him. "I wonder what's on the other side," he said, his voice echoing as it drifted through the forest behind him.

Today was the day Jake decided to find out. He started to climb it before he could think to turn back. His pants and shirt got caught on the vines and branches, but he kept climbing. Minutes passed before he got to the top of the wall. He peered over and gasped. What he saw was magical.

Impossible even.

Yet it was here, in front of his very eyes. He looked back at his side of the wall, only to be blinded by sunlight. When he looked over the wall again, it was completely dark. Impulsively, Jake grabbed a vine and jumped. He was still a few feet from the ground when the vine broke and he began to fall. He hit the ground, the wind was knocked out of him. His leg felt like it was on fire. Jake looked at it to find a large cut, cursing under his breath as he tried to move it.

"Outsider at the wall!" He heard people yell from behind him, but when they came into sight, fear struck him. Standing in front of him were creatures with animal ears and tails.

Jake didn't know what else to do but run. He ran as fast as he could, ignoring the pain in his leg.

"I see it," another voice yelled. Jake started to freak out when he heard loud footsteps behind him. It was hard to run when his leg was gushing. It was also quite difficult to see due to the only light being the moon, but what he could see was breathtaking. Through the pain, he noticed beautiful trees and other plants that seemed to be -quite literally- glowing.

As he passed a river, Jake spotted a cave. He ran to it as fast as he could, hiding behind some vines. He watched as a guy with a bow and arrow entered in after him. Fear sliced through him when he realized he was going to die.
