Cage

From my cage I see many things
But then again it could be my eyes tricking me
The world out there so big and full of wonders
All of it just wait for me to see
The wind blows the trees gently
Allowing the leafs to fly free
The fresh air that carries the smell of the flowers
Ah yes the flowers
Each one so unique and special in their own way
The oceans so blue
The shade darker than the sky
Both sky and sea
With many beautiful creatures to see
I can almost reach out and explore the wonders
If only
The metal bars didn't surround me
The ones they say will keep me safe
But what exactly are they protecting me from
They say the world isn't as beautiful as it seems
That it really is a cold cruel place
A place of hurt and worry
A place that will lead you to your death if not ready
They say I'm better off in my cage
My lonely cage
They say being lonely is better than being around monsters
But who's to say who is really the monster
They took my wings
They took my happiness
Oh that world from here looks so great
Yet they say I can't see the shadows that roam on it
From my golden cage I watch everything
Nothing can go in
And sadly nothing can get out
