ALEXANDRIA THOUGHT about her response to Caleb's Invite as if she was facing the most important decision of her life.
In a way, it was the most important decision of her life—at least one of them. Saying yes would change everything, and so would saying no. Alex wanted to say yes, the fluttering of her heart and the butterflies in her stomach made that very clear, but the logical part of her brain prevented her from scrawling YES! as a response.
She paced the length of her small bedroom, turning over the arguments for both sides in her mind again and again. Logically, she should say no. She shouldn't risk her friendship with Caleb, especially considering the amount of high school relationships that do work out (only two percent of married couples in North America were high school sweethearts, she googled). So why should she risk it? She could have a life long friend instead of a short relationship.
But it didn't feel right.
And if there was anything Alexandria treasured, it was doing what felt right. Caleb felt right.
She stopped her pacing and went to her desk, and determinedly pulling the response paper towards her, she wrote:
Dear Cal,
Yes. I will go to the dance with you.Lexie
