32 years later . . .

Everyone is currently 50 years old, halfway through their life. Here's a glimpse at what they've been doing with it so far:

Peter: he became very depressed after Alex's rejection. But with the help and support of his parents, therapist, and best friend, Jack, he was able to get through it. He grew to become a high school math teacher and married another teacher at the school. He was happy. However, his wife died when he was forty-five years old in a car accident, and he took his own life soon after. His note said, "I could not live without her. She is my light, my sun. How can anyone live without their sun?" He left two daughters, currently under the care of his brother and his husband.

Kevin: he went on to go to business school, and take over his parents' store. Under his management, it grew into a multi-chain grocery store across the province. He adopted a boy who he met at the soup kitchen where he sometimes volunteered, but never settled down with anyone.

Omar: he became a NYT's bestselling author with over thirty books published. He married a fellow writer and lived his days writing in his mansion. He certainly did better than his bullies.

Eric: he became a chemist and physicist, winning a Nobel prize in chemistry for his life's work. He married a surgeon and had three little genius children.

Ursula: she became a psychologist and helped LGBTQ+ youth navigate the tough times as they came out to their families. She married a social worker and adopted five children and fostered many more. Her mother remained a strong ally and presence in her life, vastly enjoying and spoiling her grandchildren.

Riley: he went on to became a gold-medalist for Canada in the Olympics. He married one of his trainers, Alice Ferrara, who later divorced, sued him (and unfortunately lost but to not little damage to his reputation), and had a restraining order against him because of the way he physically abused her. After the trial, no one would hire him for anything. She went on to become an advocate and voice for domestically abused women.

Henri: he left high school and the city, and never came back. No one knew what happened to him.

Tristan: he grew up to become a teacher, to help kids the way Alex helped him. He married one of his old students years after she graduated when they re-met at a bar, divorced, and went their separate way without children.

Georgia: she died from a drug overdose at a college party. She enjoyed partying so much so that she didn't care about the harm her excessive drinking and drug use was doing to her body and mind. At least she died doing something that she liked.

Caleb: he didn't become the perfect surgeon his mother wanted, but he did become a successful lawyer. He worked as a Crown attorney* for his whole career, catching bad guys. He married Alexandria when they graduated from undergraduate school and loved her for all their days. Everyday, he marvelled at how lucky he was that she loved him.

*Crown Attorney is a name used to refer to prosecutors in Canada. They act on behalf of the government/crown (since Canada is a constitutional monarchy) to prosecute and catch bad guys.

Alexandria: she launched a non-profit organization that helped at-risk youth and children in need called, I Am Here For You. It became very successful and helped countless children. She was happy in every aspect of her life, especially with Caleb by her side. They had two children, a girl and boy. As well, they had a cat—upon Caleb's insistence that a cat rounded out their "aesthetic."
