The sun was setting and we were still standing at the scene. The tears had dried up, but could come back at any given moment.
My head hurt, my feet hurt and my heart hurt. All at the same time, not giving me any ease.
It all happened in a minute, a measly minute. One minute there, one minute not. It was like the sun suddenly being covered by clouds, you don't realize it until it actually happens. It just abruptly becomes dark, darker than before. Then you await the moment it become light again. You don't know when it will happen, or if it will happen at all. It could just stay dark, but you never know. You just wait.
What was that saying? "You don't realize what you've got until it's gone"? Well, that never applied to me more than in this second.
Weeks past, maybe even months, but it all felt like minutes to me. And time just happened to stop all-together when I heard the dreaded words. At this given moment, the tears slowly started to make their way down my face again.
"I'm sorry, but she's dead."
