Chapter 2: Weapon of Choice

Garreth's PoV

My name is Garreth, and I'm somehow alive.

I awake in my bed with a cold rag on my forehead. I tried to sit up but I felt a huge rush of pain in doing so. After a little bit of painful maneuvering, I was able to sit against the head of my bed.

I thought of yelling for somebody to help but it was a hard enough task to breath, let alone yell. I decided to just wait it out until someone came to check up on me.

I waited what could only have been a few minutes when Dad came into the room. He looked surprised that I was up and quickly ran outside, I think I heard him yell something about me being awake.

I waited a little longer for him to come back. When he returned he wasn't alone, the village Elder Nacamera was with him too.

Shocked, I tried to sit up at least a little bit to show respect when he put a hand on my shoulder and spoke, "No child, don't stress your body anymore."

All I could do was nod my head. I couldn't figure out what was going on, why was the Elder here? What happened at my trial? Why am I in so much pain?

Elder Nacamera removed his hand and calmly said, "I know you have a lot of questions, and we'll try to answer them as best as we can, but first we need to know if you can speak."

I gathered all of the strength I had, which wasn't a lot, and tried to speak, "I- I think I can."

I was surprised at how my voice sounded, it sounded gravely and raspy, like I hadn't used it in a long time.

Elder Nacamera nodded his head, "Good. Now, what do you remember from the Trial?"

"I remember going to the forest, Dad creating the starting point," I  put a hand over the center of my chest, "Then I remember this pain, like was on fire, in the middle of my chest. Then a huge beast showed up outta no where and I remember running."

Elder Nacamera nodded his head and said, "Continue."

I rubbed my throat, "I remember running and getting cornered. Then Dad tried to fight it and got pinned down, then I stabbed it in the chest. Then there was a bright light and I blacked out."

Dad looked over at me, "Do you have any questions?"

I nodded my head and spoke with as much force as I could muster, "Yea. What the hell happened! You said it would be easy! We both almost died! And the sword you gave me shattered!"

Elder Nacamera shook his head, "That's a kinda long story. You see, there's only been three cases of a hyperstrong spirit manifestation, and all three of them are inside this room."

I looked at Elder Nacamera and Dad and realized that this must've happened during their Trials as well.

"Even then though, the spirit swords never shattered, cracked yes, but never shattered." Elder Nacamera put his hands together, "The spirit sword is made out of spiritual energy."

I felt my jaw drop, "Did you just say 'made of spiritual energy'?"

Elder Nacamera nodded his head, "Perhaps weaved is a better word for it. You see Garreth, in order to summon your swords that you use in combat you use a technique called soul weaving. Although in the case of your weapon you don't have to weave much as it is a extension of  your soul."

Dad scratched the back of his head, "Did ya understand what he said, Garreth?"

I shook my head and my Dad simply said, "What the Elder means is that our swords are made of our soul's spiritual energy. By using soul weaving, we can summon our weapons anytime. Get it now?"
