Chapter 3: A Chance Encounter
Garreth's PoV
This day is gonna be awesome!
I woke up with a huge smile on my face. Today is the day that I create my hunting weapon!
I hopped out of bed and threw on my clothes and looked in the mirror. I'm not sure what exactly has changed in the past few day, but I think I like it. My eyes seem to brighter, and I seem to have put on some muscle.
I smile and walk outside, grabbing a piece of dried jerky on the way out.
I chewed and walked until I found my way to Nedae's store.
I open the door and shouted, "Hey Uncle Nedae! Ya here!?"
Uncle Nedae staggered slowly from under his counter, "Yeah I'm here." He spoke with a slur.
I ran over to him, "Uncle Nedae, what the hell happened to you?"
He chuckled and said, "Your dad came by and we had a few drinks."
I looked him in the eye, "You got drunk didn't you?"
Nedae smiled, "Maybe a little bit."
I sighed and sat him down in a chair, "Where's Dad? He's not at home."
Nedae looked surpised, "Huh? He isn't?"
I shook my head, "Not when I woke up, got any ideas where he's at?"
Nedae shook his head, "Nope. I dunno where he could be."
"Ugh. I'll be back later, stay outta trouble." I turned and jogged out of the shop.
I heard Nedae's voice say, "Can do~~~!"
I jogged around the village looking for him.
How can someone with such a big head just disappear?
I ran around a little more then headed out towards the graves.
I heard Dad before I saw him, I slowed down to a walk when I heard, "-We're gettin' along alright. We miss you. I know the kid doesn't show it but he does. He'll be forming his weapon today, what do you think he'll make?"
I moved a bit closer to hear, "I'm worried Calina, I don't know what'll happen. Things are getting bad.. Should I grab Garreth and get out of here?"
Dad put his head on the tombstone and whispered barely high enough to hear, "I wish you were here.. You'd know what to do..."
I leaned forward to hear as he whispered to the tombstone when I heard something crack and snap under my foot.
Dad looked up and wiped his face and said, "Oh hey buddy!"
I straightened up so I didn't look like I was just eavesdropping on him, "Hey Dad," I kneeled down and looked at the tombstone, "Came to see Mom?"
Dad nodded, "Yeah.." Dad sighed, "Just came to see her.."
I nodded and stood up, "Yeah..."
Dad clapped his hands together, "Well, let's go forge your first weapon!" He stood up and walked towards the village again.
I jogged after him and we headed to the gate where, to my surprise, Elder Nacamera was already waiting.
I slowed to a walk and bowed my head, "Hello, Elder Nacamera."
I felt a sharp pang of pain as Elder Nacamera hit me with his staff, "Stop all that. You are a hunter, the epitomy of what the village has to offer. We are now on equal footing."
