Nick arrived at nine thirty to pic up his little sister. She had called him yesterday and asked whether she could still stay the weekend. And he just laughed and said "Yes, of course, princess. I promised you!" She had squealed and his mother told him that she had been grinning the whole day afterwards.

So when he parked his car Amy already stood at the garden gate and bounced up and down. She really was excited. She looked cute in her baby blue dress and black ballerina flats. Like a little princess, Nick thought and jumped out of his car.

Amy ran towards him and hugged his legs tightly. He patted her head lightly and gently pealed her off. He took her tiny hand in his instead and walked through their garden and entered the house. When he took off his shoes and got to the kitchen, his mother was cooking. What, he didn't know. It was too late for breakfast and too early for lunch. But he didn't question her.

"Hi, mum" he greeted and she instantly turned around at the sound of his voice.

"Nicolas!" A wide smile spread over her face and she grabbed his free wrist to pull him in for a bone crushing hug. Air was pushed out of his lungs and he struggled to get some oxygen in when his father joined them and laughed at the amusing sight of his family in the kitchen.

"Let him breathe, darling" he said and tugged at his wife's apron. She just sighed and let go of her son.

"Welcome home, Nick. How have you been?" His father asked and Nick told him how he had organized himself in his apartment which he - by the way - shared with another guy named Jackson who attended the same college as him.

"That's great, son. What is he like?" His dad asked and sat down on one of the four stools. He wanted to know how his son was doing and if he had already found some people to connect with.

"He's pretty cool. He'll study Psychology and Physics. I think that's kind of a weird combination but he said he couldn't decide which one to apply for so he just took both. How he'll want to manage that, I'm not sure. But I think after one or two weeks he'll decide on one of them. He seems more like the physics type for me though." Nick told his parents and took a seat too. Amy climbed on his lap and played his fingers.

"Did you meet some girls yet?" his mother asked and her eyes lit up at that topic. She loved to talk about that. As far as she knew Nick had never had a girlfriend before. Or at least he had never brought anyone home except for some of his male friends. Nick just rolled his eyes and shook his head.

"No mum, I was busy all week. I'm just happy I finally finished setting up the apartment with Jackson. Oh and Amy?" His sisters head snapped up to meet his twinkling eyes.

"Jackson really wants to meet you" Nick smiled and stroked her hair lovingly.

"Really? How old is he? Is he nineteen like you?"

"Yeah, he is. Why?" He asked curiously.

"Then you have to tell him that he's too old for me." She said sincerely looking her brother in the eyes. Nick threw his head back and laughed like he hadn't in a long time. Amy didn't understand why that was funny but she just laughed along with him and her parents which started laughing, too.

"Alright, baby girl. I'll tell him." Nick said a little breathless from all the laughing and grinned at his little sister. She was so adorable. What would he ever do without her?

"Do you want to eat with us?" His mother asked a hopeful glint in her eyes. Nick sighed and told her that he couldn't because Jackson lost his key the day after they had moved in. So he had to open the door for him when he came back at two in the afternoon. He had a feeling that this would happen more often than he'd like. His parents – especially his mum – looked disappointed but they understood and nodded.

"Are you ready, Amy?" He looked at his little sister and smiled. She nodded furiously and jumped off his lap.

"I'll go get my bags!" She shouted from the stairs and only the trample of her little steps could be heard.

Nick raised his left eyebrow. "Her bags? As in plural?"

"IF YOU WANNA BE MY LOVER, YOU GOTTA GET WITH MY FRIENDS..." Amy sang along with the Spice Girls and tried to turn the volume up which was at 100% already. Nick cringed at the loudness and turned the radio off. He was starting to get a headache.

"HEY!" Amy cried and looked at him accusingly.

"I'm sorry, princess but that song is awful! You shouldn't even sing this! You are only five!" he said and looked at her for a second before turning his attention back to the road. They were almost there. One more hour and he could throw himself on the couch and play something on his Playstaton.

"It isn't! It's a great song and I am already a big girl!" she said proudly and straightened her back. Nick laughed and squeezed her knee.

"I'm still a couple of years older, Amanda" He said and winked at her. She just glared at him for using her whole name. She hated it and he knew it. She was only called 'Amanda' when she did something bad and her parents were about to lecture her. Nick never called her that. Only when he was teasing her. She didn't like to be teased.

When Amy looked out the window for pretty much half an hour without saying anything, Nick sighed and rubbed the skin above her knee to get her attention. She eventually looked at him, her eyes narrowed. But he couldn't really take her serious. She just looked so adorable. So innocent.

"I'm sorry, baby girl, okay? I won't call you Amanda again" he said and looked at her apologetically.

"Don't mention it ever again!" she said pouting her lip.

"Okay, calm down. We're almost there" He said and she eagerly looked out the window again. She wanted to see everything and then tell her parents about it. Again, Amy bounced up and down from excitement. She would see where her brother was living now! And she would meet his old friend Jason...

"Is he nice?" She asked her brother and he turned his head to her, a confused expression on his face.

"Who?" He wanted to know and she rolled her eyes at him. She rolled her eyes at him!

"Jason, of course. Who else?" She said and folded her hands in her lap, waiting expectantly.

"Who's Jas... Ah! You mean Jackson?" Nick laughed and changed the lane.

"Wasn't his name Jason? I'm sure you said his name was Jason!" she insisted and blew a strand of hair out of her face .

"No, it was Jackson. And why do you want to know? I thought he's too old for you?" He smirked and winked at her while turning left.

He suddenly had to hit the break and his arm automatically threw to the side to hold his sister and press her back in the seat.

The was a large crowd around one of the apartment towers which was blocking the street. What was going on? He leaned forward in his seat and tried to see why the crowd was staring up the tower but he had a limited view on the occasion.

"Stay in the car" He ordered and his sister nodded a little frightened. When he shut the door he made sure to lock it so nobody could get in and touch his little angle.

Now... What was wrong with these people?

He tilted his head up and tried to find what had caught these people's attention.

And then he saw it.

He saw the girl on the roof.

She was standing near the edge of it. Her hair was blowing in the wind and her arms were stretched out. What the hell was she doing there?

And then it dawned on him.

She was about to jump.
