Part Seven: To Our Only Hope

A year later, Adrianna died in a car crash at nineteen. Her car was T-boned by an underaged drunk driver. He was imprisoned. Adrianna had a beautiful funeral, and Ben and I worked for weeks to help her father earn more money to pay for her funeral. She never finished college, she never became a vet. She never even found love. All because some senior in high school got drunk at a graduation party.

Ben and I lived together and had one child, once we were married for a while. We waited three years, to be exact.

We had a little girl we named Hope Victorian Chester. Her middle name, Victorian, is in memory of Adrianna.

Linus has lived for a very long time, he's eighteen years old now.

Ben and I have been married for eighteen years.

Hope has a boyfriend named Fate, who I definitely approve of. Ben tells Hope he doesn't like her boyfriend, but we all know he really does. He tells me that Fate reminds him of himself when he was that age. I always tease him and tell him that if he isn't careful, he might frighten Fate. Hope is a Freshman in high school. A very important time in her life, I tell her. High school will shape her life more than she realizes.
