Tater-tots - Klix

Alix's POV: I sat in class, listening to my stomach growl rather than listening to Ms. Mendeleiev. she was going on about some old book that I couldn't care less about. All I could think was getting out of this class and getting something to eat. In hindsight I probably shouldn't have skipped breakfast, but when Hercules dared me to see who can be the first at school. Of course I took the dare, because I couldn't listen to him taunting me about not taking it, and was set out to win. Sadly though, He won only by a few minutes.

"Alix!" I feel someone pulling on my arms, trying to get my attention. I look up to see Marinette looking at me weird. "Finally I've been trying to get your attention for the last five minutes!"

I look around and see that me, Marinette, and Ms. Mendeleiev are the only ones in the classroom. Crap! I was so caught up with my thoughts about that stupid dare that I didn't hear Ms. Mendeleiev dismiss the class. My stomach growled again, reminding me of my hunger. I quickly sat up and race out of the classroom, with Marinette behind me trying to keep up with me. 

"How can someone with such short legs be so fast?" I heard Marinette mumble. I smirk at her question, I'm proud of my size. People underestimate me because I'm so small, so I'm always a little surprise to everyone. Soon Marinette gave up on keeping up with me and just decided to walk slowly behind me.

I finally made it to the cafeteria. Almost everyone has already grab their food and found a seat. I grab a tray and get in line. My heart soars when I see what's for lunch today, Breaded fish, cauliflower , a chocolate éclair, and my favorite food ever Tater-tots! The one thing I love about my school is that they don't play around when it comes to making some delicious lunches.

I got in line behind Chloe and tried my best to wait patiently as Chloe complained and cried about every option of food. I was about to say something when I felt some grab my shoulder, I turn around to see Marinette. "It's not worth it." She mouthed. I cliched my jaw together tightly, she was right. My dad will kill me if I get one more detention. I knew that I was probably going to get detention soon anyways, but I should probably wait until I can have at least I small excuse for my dad.

I need something to do that doesn't involve slapping Chloe, so instead I decide to face Marinette and talk to her. She has a way of making anyone calm. We make small talk for a few minutes til she finally asks what seems to be bothering her, "so what were you thinking about in the classroom, Alix?"

"Oh just about some dumb dare that Kim made me do. We had to see who could get to the school first, so I decided to skip breakfast and get there at about 4 am." When I say it out loud it might sound foolish and dumb to everyone else, but to me and Kim it was very important.

"Wait, so you haven't eaten anything? Dang, you guys are really serious about your dares." She voices it like it's a compliment and I take it as one. "Who won?"\

"He did." I say with a little anger in my voice. I don't like admitting that I lost, but I know that Marinette would never make fun of me for losing. "And no, I haven't had anything to eat today. That's why I'm practically drooling at those tater-tots over there."

 I heard Chloe give a little chuckle behind me and it made me wonder what she was so proud of. Chloe only chuckles when she did something bad or rude. I turn around to see that she took all of the tater-tots! She must have heard me talking about how much I want them and decided to screw with me. She doesn't even like them! I cliche my fist together and started walking towards her. Then I remember that my dad said that I was grounded for a month if I got in trouble at school one more time. I'll just have to wait until after school, then I can pound Chloe into the ground. knowing that Chloe won't be smug for much longer helped ease some of the anger, but I was still ticked. I'm starving and all I really want right now are some tater-tots. 

I grab my food and take it outside. Everyone was having lunch with their boyfriends or girlfriends and those who aren't dating anyone are eating with their best friends. I sit underneath a huge tree and began eating my fish. It's times like this that makes me feel especially lonely. Sure I had a lot of friends, but I didn't really have a best friend. Marinette had Alya, Rose had Juleka, Adrien had Nino, etc. I don't have anyone to call my best friend. 

Not that I need one. I don't get close to people, that way no one has a chance to hurt me. I don't regret not getting close to anyone, just sometimes wish that I had someone to eat lunch with. 

I feel someone sit down next to me. To my surprise, it was Hercules. "What are you doing?" I question him. I thought he would have wanted to eat lunch with Max.

"I wanted to eat lunch with you, at least if that's okay with you." He said, acting nervous for some reason. What does he have to be nervous for? 

"Why." we ate lunch together before, but that was with a group never alone.

"Can't I just eat lunch with my friend?" He voice was very defense, as if I hurt him by questioning his motivations. "Well, it'll be better then eating alone." I thought.

"Whatever." We sat in silence for a little while, neither really knowing what to say. I've never felt this awkward around Kim before. I look at him for a minute and notice that he had a plate full of tater-tots that he hasn't touched. I wanted them but didn't know how to ask him for them. 

He noticed me staring at his plate and finally broke the silence, "oh, I almost forgot. I got these for you." He handed me his plate, which was empty expect for the tater-tots. I stared at him for a little bit, not taking them yet.

He rubbed his neck with his free hand, "they're still your favorite, right?" He asked not very confidently. I nodded and took them.

"How'd you know?" I said as I start shoving them into my mouth. 

"Well I remember you telling me that they were your favorite so I thought that you might like to have some of mine too. And lucky that I grab some for you, seeing as Chloe decided to act like a brat." I blushed in embarrassment. He saw what Chloe did and how I didn't react. Did he think I'm afraid of Chloe now? Gosh, he probably thinks that I can't stand up for myself.

Then my mind remembers the first part of his sentence. He not only remember some minor thing that I said but also thought about me? My heart gave a little flutter, maybe I do have a close friend. "Thanks." I whisper to him, not thanking him for the tater-tots but for his friendship. I looked up to see him blushing hard. "He kind looks cute when he blushes."   I thought and quickly erase the thought from my mind. 

No way do I think that Hercules is cute! Now that I think about it, I kind of always thought he was cute. But know I know that he's not only cute but also super considerate and nice. Oh my gosh, I have a crush on Kim! 

I erase the thoughts from my head. That's something to think about later, for now I'm just going to enjoy the moment with him.
