Enna's POV
'Finally!' I breathe a sigh of relief having finally finished packing up the rest of prince Alec's useless royal shit in the large carriage. 'No one needs this many swords' I think annoyed at having to pack every single one of them. The only good part about this is getting to see Princess Amara's kingdom, I heard its very beautiful.Regardless, I could really use a change of scenery around here. I honestly feel bad for the her, Prince Alec is an awful man and I pity the woman who has to marry that tyrant. Wiping the dust and residue off on my old brown apron, I head towards the princes chambers to tell him I've finished the job and we can head off. Knocking on the huge doors, I hear a gruff voice respond with "Come in."
"My prince, I have finished packing up the rest of your swords for the trip to Erendell" I inform him. "Took you long enough" He complains and waves me off. 'God what a prick' I think walking away from him.
About an hour later he finishes doing whatever royal garbage he was doing and gets in his big gold carriage, while the other seven maids and I pile in to the small broken down one behind his. We start moving and it's not long before I fall asleep.
I'm abruptly awoken from my slumber with a kick to the leg, looking around I see it was Brin, another maid with short, dark hair and grayish eyes...well everything is grayish so I guess that doesn't help much.
I shoot her a glare before I hear the carriage door open and prince Alec look inside. He hates it when we sleep on the job, even if the job is waiting four hours in a carriage. "Everyone get out, we're here." He commands walking away from us towards the palace gates.
I quickly realize Brin was helping me out and I'm filled with guilt, so I smile gently and whisper a faint "thank you" she just nods and gets out along with everyone else. I notice we're heading to the main greeting room, it's very similar to prince Alec's. The princess is across from us with her mother next to her, neither look happy.
The Queen has long black hair pulled back tightly in a bun above her head, very pale skin, and cold eyes. As for Princess Amara...I can't get a good look at her, her dark hair is covering her face and she's looking down, with both hands behind her back folded in a very elegant manner.
"Hello, it's an honor to have you here" Her mother greets cheerfully with a smile, although it doesn't quite reach her eyes. She looks to the side of her and realizes the princess is still looking down. "Amara." She says in a sickly sweet voice. Although that doesn't last long.
"AMARA!" The Queen yells and snaps her fingers in her face. "Your soulmates right here! You have got to stop getting distracted by silly things, it's very unqueenly of you." I notice the princess still hasn't taken her gaze off the ground. 'Wow. Guess the Queen has a temper.' I think.
The Queen continues, "Now introduce yourself to him- and for god sakes look up!" She looks as if she's finally had enough and forces her daughters gaze off the ground herself, finally letting me get a good look at the princesses face.
My breath is taken away not only by her stunning beauty but at the colorful new world that greets me when she meets my eyes. 'N-No way...' I think my brain swirling with thoughts and emotions I can barely contain. I hopefully manage to look composed and resist the urge to see how everything looks in color. Luckily no one is looking at me, they never do; after all we're just the help.
She looks even better in color, I can now tell the princess has stunning greyish blue eyes and pale skin just like her mothers, although it's a shade or two darker. Her straight black hair goes down to her shoulders, and I'd do anything to run my fingers through it.
Her dress is beyond gorgeous, it's form fitted, accentuating her every dip and curve perfectly with gold accents and a black base. It's very clearly of high quality. I suddenly feel very inadequate, wearing simple worn down scrubs. Although she looks at me with such fondness I almost forget what I'm wearing.
A cold voice cuts through our moment like a knife. "Amara, this is Alec Simmes prince of Aaweyn, your soulmate." The princess doesn't respond and only continues to stare at me and I can't help but blush under her gaze. Suddenly, she winces and her expression fills with pain for less than a second before her face goes blank again. I look at her in concern, wondering if she's alright.
"I deeply apologize for my daughters complete lack of respect Prince Alec, she is working on becoming the perfect wife and unfortunately we still have some work to do..." the Queen says. 'I'm genuinely starting to hate this woman.' I think spitefully. The Prince laughs, as if someone told an amazing joke and says "Oh don't worry Queen Mary, I'm very experienced at...fixing...women." I sense Princess Amaras worry and am overwhelmed by a sense of protectiveness.
'What is that supposed to mean?!' I think angrily 'you can't fix a woman! Besides she's already perfect!' I haven't said a word to her and yet I already know I'd do anything to keep her safe. He's too close to her. WAY too close. I can't even see her! Im doing everything in my power not to push him away. He says something to her that I can't hear and then has the nerve to kiss her cheek. Determination and rage course through my body and only one thought fills my head.
'I can't wait to save you.'
