"My name is River Kayson." she said quietly.

She stood up and went into the man's truck with no hesitation.

"Is it okay if we ride with you?" I asked the man.

He looked like he was still hocked by River's unexpected and rude move but snapped out of it and granted us access.

"Where are we going?" I asked the man. We were in the truck for what seemed like hours.

"We are going to my office." he replied.

Another hour passed by. Man, how long is this drive going to be? Wherever it is, I am highly doubting that this location is his 'office'.

"Oh I'm sure it's my office." the man stated simply.

I look at him, bewildered. "How the hell did you know what I was going to say?!"

"Well, if you have noticed, I am a mutant. Just like you."

It seemed like River got bored of being human, so she transformed into her kitten form an started to okay with her tail while sitting on my lap. Man, she's so adorable! I have so many questions about her.

But most of them are focused on the man. I want to know about him.

"So is your power the ability to burn up heads?" I asked.

The man slightly chuckled, but was not amused.

"My 'power' is the ability to create fire and the ability to reach into minds. A good friend of mine taught me how to use those two powers together."

I nodded. Even though I still don't understand a little bit of it but that's ok. At least I know what his mutation is.

"So you can erase memories?" I asked.

He scoffed. "What good does it do if I erase memories?"

"Excuse me?"

"If you take a pencil and a peice of paper, write on it. Now you just need to erase it. Now what his left on the paper now?"

My slow and fragile little brain thought for a moment.

"Smudges."

"Correct. Why erase something when there is always something left behind? That's why I burn memories. All there is left are unrecognizable ashes instead of exposed smudges."

It all makes sense now! That explained why the clerk's head was burned and was really peculiar when it came with his attitude towards us.

"So what's your name, sir?" I asked.

He sat up bin his seat proudly. "Matthew. Matthew Nicholas Curtis. What's yours?" he asked.

"Mira. Mira Kayson." I told him.

"Wonderful name! Wait, did you say Kayson? So does that mean that River is in fact your sister?"

"I honestly don't know how to answer that question. I suppose she is, even though I have never met her in my life."

After I said this, River tensed up on my lap.

The ride was long. Matthew told River and I that we were going to New York. Which was going to be a long ass drive since we left from snowy Denver, Colorado.

So I accepted the news since River and I have nowhere else to go. And Matthew seemed trustworthy, since he was a mutant and he isn't like the one who raised me.

Disloyal and mysterious.

Matthew was totally different. Especially if you get into a few conversations with him in a small truck. Mystique on the other hand, made conversations uncomfortable and kept changing subjects left and right.

After another few hours of our conversations, I slowly drifted off to sleep without a single care in the world.
